Contemplating the purchase of a 645z but I'm being distracted by the dslr sized medium format Fuji...

I'm not biased at all, but I'd say go for the Pentax, loads of lenses available particularly in very good / excellent condition usually boxed from Japan / USA at decent prices even with import duty and VAT, cant off hand recall completely but I think the Z is cheaper than the Fuji, there'll be s/h ones available as well.

IMO it does behave like a big DSLR, its not that much bigger than a gripped K1, the menu's pretty much the same as a K5ii / K3ii / K1and it takes the same batteries plus its a joy and superb to use

Agree with Chris on these points - but there's another potentially big plus point of the Pentax (depending on your eyes), the Optical Viewfinder - I still haven't seen an EVF I would be happy using for a prolonged period, whereas the bright, large optical finder on the Pentax is a real pleasure and has a screen on the rear too!

You can pick up a used 645Z for not much more than a new K1 nowdays - If I was choosing an MF digital I'm in no doubt what I'd go for

Thank you both Chris and Lenny for your advice and encouragement. The question of EVF hadn't escaped my attention, I too prefer the OVF of Pentax and expect that l would likely struggle with an EVF.
In addition, I've been a life long user of Pentax cameras and lenses and don't see the need to change my spots now. However, sometimes the grass may appear greener in another camp leading to momentary temptation, so thanks again Chris and Lenny for your words of wisdom. Have a great day both of you.

Some lovely images here. Well posed and framed. My personal preference is to move towards the one's without the highlights included. Love the last one...!! (shot from below eye level)
