SDM failure mostly happens with zoom lenses. The DA*300mm has a low failure rate and I've never had problems with mine. The 200mm is even more reliable.

The problems were usually with older lenses anyway.

I previously had the DA*200 f2.8 fixed focal length lens and its SDM failed but that's not why I traded it in for the new DFA*70-200 which gives me more flexibility. It was a superb performer and Johnsons, (before they ran into difficulties) repaired it very quickly.
I'm currently planning to have my DA*16-50 2.8 zoom converted to screw drive because of SDM issues. This lens is more than 10 years old and has been used extensively as was the DA*200. Both lived up to their reputation for quality imagery.

Lovely stuff. You don't say where you were but I suspect its North Wales.

You had a good 2018 Nigel, these are first class. I like your varied approach to the subjects and we've learned you are an artist in other ways too. Congratulations.

Dark and moody is good, I really like the atmosphere of these. But as some others have said a slight lift in the exposure of selected areas, not the whole picture, would improve these excellent shots.

I've had my K-3 for over four years and haven't felt any need to replace it. I really don't want any more pixels, it already eats up disk space.
Me too. My K3 is more than four years old and its still my No. 1 camera body, backed up by a K5 and a K30. When the K1 was still quite new I considered buying one but spent the money instead on glass - a D FA*70-200mm zoom. Its heavy and quite expensive but I got a great discount from SRS on it. It replaced my previous fixed focal length DA*200mm lens which lacked the flexibility I needed.
The K30 is my answer to going mirrorless as its light and great for carrying around when I'm doing urban photography. Unlike some people who had unfortunate experiences with the K30 mine has never let me down.

In a moment of vanity I thought about applying for a distinction from the RPS, but checking their website all assessment days will be held at their new HQ in The Paintworks, Bristol. One small car park for the whole development with 3 hour max. parking, nothing for the HQ building at all, so parking elsewhere and using a bus or taxi. Brilliant. Train routes do not connect with where I live other than a tortuous skip around the country with three changes so not viable. People coming from all over the country but nowhere to park, what precious idiot thought this was a good location? So the only option is to cart your portfolio of mounted photos on public transport. Maybe not really a topic for this forum but I just had to let off steam.
Actually I thought the RPS held distinction assessment and advisory days at various regional locations, not always at their HQ. There have been some on Tyneside and I know there have also been some at Bridge of Allen near Stirling, not much use if you live in Eastern England or Inverness though.
