Hi Sarah, a big, warm welcome from me! As you know, there are a few of us Pentaxians in Sheffield and we do meet up every now and then. I'll make sure you get an invite on our next day out. You have a good teacher in Andrew, I'm looking forward to seeing some of your pictures.

Best wishes
David

These are indeed awesome shots and ones that I cannot currently get anywhere near to with the equipment and skill that I have. I do tend to agree with Chris though - it would be great to see some without flash. The flash highlights details beautifully, but tends to make the birds look a bit 'flat' against the background.

Number 3 is an absolute corker. We got caught in 100mph winds and horizontal hail recently on the top of Helm Crag - not pleasant!

I've had no lock-ups with my K-5 yet (fingers crossed) and I've done quite a bit of work in Live View. Maybe I'm just lucky?

Metering with M lenses seems to work better with the K-5 than it did with older bodies.
I agree with John. I have quite a few old manual lenses and they work brilliantly on the K-5, no need for any exposure adjustment normally. The K-x is not bad, but requires about 0.5 to 1 stop under-exposure to get it right. I haven't noticed any blue tint or any other colour tint, regardless of exposure, although a lot of the old lenses do add warmth to various degrees.

I have to say Mike that it doesn't look like a Common Wasp in your picture. It could be a species of Wasp, but Common Wasps don't have antennae like the one in your pic. Wasps have quite hairy faces too (see link below)!

Anyway, regardless of the species your shot is fab, as are the ones by Milamber.

Superlative shots of one of our most spectacular native birds.

There's usually no need for any compensation when shooting with a K-5 in RAW as the sensor is capable of recording a very wide dynamic range. During post-processing you can recover a massive amount of shadow detail. The main objective is not to 'burn out' any highlights as these are not recoverable.

It is definitely not a Common Wasp, although I don't know exactly what it is. Wasps do not have eyes like this insect's and they also have completely different mouthparts.

It may be a more uncommon species of wasp, but is more likely to be a fly. Can Charlotte help?
