get an "empty" PZ 2x and AF should work fine. I've tried it.
Just a quick update on this point, I have recently bought a Kenko 2x PZ-AF converter and found that it does not Autofocus with the Pentax SDM lenses, including the DA*300. This is nothing to do with aperture or loss of light as the camera states 'MF' as soon as the converter is attached. Not sure why this is, but the contacts cannot be right. It does work fine with the Sigma 150-500 and Sigma 17-70 HSM lenses though.

A most excellent set, I might have a go at this myself if we get any dry days, but I've also ordered an old zoom which I shall duly butcher.

What combination of apertures on the reversed lens and normal lens resulted in the best results Dr O?

On the basis that it is 'not photography related' should the 'Another Pointless Thread' also be removed? If not, removal of Louise's thread strikes me as hypocritical, unless there are other reasons apart from the 'non photography' one. If there are other reasons then as stated many times already, these reasons should be stated.

It's Hama 006899 Adjustable Shoe Mount Universal. Only 2 left in stock at Amazon!!
Hi Neil, what exactly does the Hama mount do and why is it so important? I've had a look at it on Amazon and the images on there don't tell me anything, also there's no reviews.

Thanks in advance for your help.

It looks like a headless cyclist to me! The idea is good, but it really needs the head to be visible for it to work.

You lot have got me at it now! You've forced me to buy a FA 28-80 from ebay for £19, lens spanner also ordered, hacksaws and dremel are ready and waiting!

Just a couple of further questions for Neil and Charlotte; what flash setup are you using with the butchered zoom and how far (typically) from the subject is the element of the reversed lens when zoomed to 80mm?

I still can't understand why people get obsessed with 'calibration'. With DA lenses all the relevant focusing parameters are in the lens EEPROM - read the patents - and so far no-one had figured out what they mean.

All that the menu 'calibration' tweak does is correct for tolerances in flange distance of a particular lens or of a particular camera.
That's exactly why we do it. I have a DFA 100 F2.8 macro WR that would be useless if I hadn't calibrated it. It needs +10 adjustment as without this it back focusses badly, not desirable with a macro lens! I can't get it sorted under warranty as I bought it second hand and I suspect that the previous owner couldn't get a sharp image from it. Now that it's calibrated to my camera bodies it works perfectly.

I'm not 'obsessed with calibration' but I do want my expensive equipment to deliver the results I expect from it. Pentax wouldn't put AF adjustment menus in their cameras for no reason and they wouldn't have even greater adjustments available via the debug menu either if everything was perfect from the factory.

The second one is truly outstanding Alan, you must be very proud of it.

Thanks to you all, it seems that everyone bar Matty is saying 'Bempton'. I'll have to see if I can squeeze in the Dove Valley in the next couple of weeks.

Cheers
