I'm going to the 'in-laws' house which is on Jawbone Hill in Oughtibridge, Sheffield. Their house has a field at the back which has access to Jawbone Hill and an uninterrupted view down the hill from an elevated point. This should be heaven for great images, but I'm a bit nervous in case I mess up!

Cheers

Another beautiful image Alan. How do you find the time to go to all these places at these times, don't you have a proper job?

The Barn Owl is one of my favourite birds, I fondly remember times in my childhood when I would walk the few hundred yards up to the top of the road where we lived, where there were open fields and a ruined windmill. Each evening I would wait for the Barn Owl to come to the fields and hunt in the soft dusk light. It was magical and your shot reminds me of this.

Thanks from me too for the feedback from Joshwa, this is the tone we have been wanting to hear and it is at least reassuring that opinions don't seem to be getting completely ignored.

I too have reservations about some of the attitudes and posts made by some members and also by the tone of some posts on the other Forum, but also I could say the same about some posts made on here by the Moderators.

We need to find a happy medium whereby we can have lively and challenging debate that stimulates discussion but doesn't step over the line into rudeness or personal attacks, which it has done on some occasions.

We need more skilled photographers on this Forum and the site in general, we cannot afford to lose them to other sites. Pentax have few to start with, so losing a significant percentage is going to hurt!

I think also that Adrian is raising a reasonable point and trying to help 'stop the rot' as it were of people moving away from this site to the other forum, which in recent weeks has happened in droves.

This is why, as Adrian correctly points out, the activity on this forum has been scant and of limited interest lately.

As it happens, I like a lot about this site, I find the Gallery and the Forum easy to use and I like the people on here. I am also one however who has registered on the other forum and I'm currently undecided about whether or not to stay on here, due to the fact that people continue to leave and there seems to be no recognition that changes are required. At the end of the day, that is fair enough, I don't have any problems with it as I'm only a user of the website as is everyone else, but I can choose not to use it also and if enough other people take that decision it will not be successful in the longer term.

David

I like the mono shots, they are very strong, very contrasty and I think the geometric element to them suits the black and white approach. Having colour in these would detract from their impact IMHO.

I don't have a Pro account, but I don't see any adverts on Flickr either! I'm not sure why this is but I'm quite happy about it!

I use a small bumbag to carry filters, a couple of batteries, a cleaning cloth etc., but not for proper camera gear. I need my Lowepro backpack for that!

Do you mean another lens to replace the 18-55 and 55-300, or to be additional to them?

As a 'by the way', if you're worried about colour reproduction on the K-3, take a look at my gallery on here, or take a look at some images by some other K-3 owners, e.g. Blythman who has posted some suberb shots in the Forum recently with the K-3.

I'm certain you won't be disappointed once you have the settings right.

It's definitely the paint Nigel, it doesn't need investigation, it's the paint that's doing it! Just remove some with a scraper, or with a dremel type tool, you can't harm the tubes doing this as there's nothing to damage, just do it man and stop deliberating over it!!
