I knew this would raise some eyebrows
I'm not saying it can't be creative; I'm saying you are immediately limiting your options. Food invariably requires careful lighting and dreamy DOF, two things the MX is not designed for.

No to the MX IMO. the sensor is too small for creative results in a range of situations and the lens options??
I think the K-01 is the best bang for your buck and a £30 m 50mm 1.7 would be ideal, especially with a short extension tube to get close. Then spend the rest on lights (yongnuo and brolly with black cover or something similar).
Tripod
BTW, K10D - great! beautiful rich colours without tweaking - ideal for food.

I have moaned about the Metz giving strange exposures in the past, but I'm still not convinced it wasn't me. Here's a recent set of 1098 images at 3,200 iso on P-TTL in extremely demanding quick-fire shots for a video sequence. I think I threw about 2 away! The 58 AF-2 was smelling a bit hot, but it handled it really well.
I use the '1' and the '2' for weddings. Nothing to compare them with, but they seem to work well.

These are beautiful. Lovely strong, confident processing.
If that wall is blown out, you could borrow some detail flipped over from the right hand wall

From what I've heard, yes, definitely.
But my macro work itself didn't improve when I got a dedicated macro lens, as opposed to the previous extension tube set-ups. It just meant I could turn round with the macro lens and shoot a portrait or catch the dog doing something cute.
I'm finding the 35mm macro is a great walk-around lens. I assume the 50 which seems to be quite cheap, would be similarly versatile.

Just magnification. Can't see any point in the 150 personally.

Raynox 250 should be in everyone's bag. Even if you have a macro, it never hurts to go even bigger They are good quality and also double up as a magnifying glass or a macro lens for your phone!
Or buy an old wide angle for a few quid (like a soligor 28mm) and get a lens reversing ring to either reverse it onto your body or onto the end of a longer lens.
I can't comment about wide angle.
