Not far behind (and talking of behinds, I like your duck Tim!).

Had a fun time today, enjoyed meeting up with you all. As Liam said on the other thread, we will do it again, perhaps south of London.

Anyway, here are five that I like that I took today, I think my favs are the last three...

...I don't think he does, he doesn't like the mindless complexity of it.

This is the third attempt I've made to post on this subject, both other times the PC has crashed on me, perhaps it's telling me something.

Viewfinder, thanks for the list of things you'd like to see on a DSLR. Some, I think, are potentially 'nice to haves', others, as George pointed out, are already embodied on the K10D, some I feel are superfluous.

The moveable, liveview LCD is obviously something a lot of people would like, especially if they were used to them on their compact camera, or if, like you and ChrisA, there is a specific need for such a feature. I might use it, but I doubt it. For me it would constitute a gimmick.

The square sensor, with extra buttons to press to orientate the jpeg, is again a good idea in some respects, but would increase the 'button pushing' required before a photo, which surely increases the complexity? I, and many others it seems, are perfectly happy with the current set-up.

The 2-second timer with mirror-up is perfect for me, I can't agree with your statement that it's 'useless'. I can compose, press the sutter release, and the camera takes care of the mirror-up, then puts it straight back down so I can recompose if necessary. It suits the way I work. For me it's ideal - I'd hate to have to keep flipping the mirror up and down after every shot.

Oh yes, the cable release. I use a wired release. I plug it in and use it exactly the same way that I used the old type that screwed in. Except that it transmits much less vibration to the camera. Oh, and I can use it from 80+ feet away (I've got a long extension). I see abhsolutely no reason why I should need a mechanical release. Admittedly, I was a bit wary the first time I got a camera with just the electronic release, but soon found it to be better.

Can't remember all the things you listed, and it's dropped off the bottom of this page. And, quite frankly, it's a list that's personal to you. Mine would be different, as would most other peoples.

I, too, am intrigued as to what this camera lacks that you desire. I have asked you before on a different thread, but you didn't reply. You keep mentioning 'mindless complexity', but give no example, other than the slimming filter which, I agree, is not worth the menu space.

I think it's called "enlightening the heathens", or something like that. Teaches them the error of their ways.

Could it just be that he got a bit confused when setting the date and put 2006 instead of 2007?

And is this the full frame resized, or a crop of the original? If it's a crop, then the photographer was too close and a lack of hotspots could be expected. If it is the full frame, then perhaps the boy hasn't got particularly shiny skin.

The EXIF shows pixel dimensions as 2997x2006. Is this the resolution when the camera is set to 6Mp, or has it been cropped from 10Mp, in which case would it be shown in the EXIF like that?

The EXIF also shows it was converted to a TIF in Photo Browser v3.10 on 3/3/07.

Hi Adrian,

I work at Bedfords Park Visitor Centre, Havering-atte-bower, so not far from you. I've got a PKA mount (on my Tamron 300 2.8 ), it works fine on my istD. If you wanted to try that on your K10D, you're more than welcome to, at least that would show whether it was a camera problem or a lens/mount problem.

Let me know if you're coming up, I only work part-time there and I haven't always got the big lens with me. I'm in weds and thurs this week.

Hi Peter,

Sorry, still on XP, but I remember a (sort of) similar problem when I got my first USB printer - printing would just stop part way through, and although onscreen it looked as though the print was continuing, nothing would happen.

Unfortunately, I can't remember what the solution was. Got a feeling it was one particular USB card that I was using, I think I changed over to a USB socket on the motherboard and it was alright. Driver problem? You'd know better than me.
