You are new to this if you've just discovered Ricehigh...

I'm pretty sure that my opinion is quite mild compared to some around here when I tell you to take what he says with a grain of salt... For someone who claims to be a Pentax user, he doesn't seem to think much of any of their equipment - at least anything less than 20 years old...

It would almost seem that he thinks he has an axe to grind with Pentax over some supposed slight or something...

Calls for "No Comments" notwithstanding, I think I'd like to hear some of the back story on Dirk's grad picture...

Copied from Cokin Website :

P Wide-Angle Holder (BPW-700) P299:
This extra slim holder helps to eliminate vignetting down to 20mm focal length.
Can hold 1 filter (can be a polarizer) and allows the use of filters with super wide lenses (focal lengths under 20mm) 35mm format.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not sure how it'd be at 10mm though... I decided to go with the Z format to cover the wide end, and any larger lenses I (hopefully) may acquire; although I was thinking more about ND Grads than polarizers...

The results of using polarizers at such wide angles sometimes results in uneven polarization, since the FOV has such a wide variance in "angle of reflectance" (I think I just made that term up...) that different parts of the picture receive varying amounts of polarization... I'm sure someone else could explain it better...

Not all would agree, but there are a couple I wish they'd bring back... How about the 1.7AF Tele Converter to start (theyy're getting harder and harder to find...)
I know a lens + TC is never going to be as good as a prime of the TC'd length, but for convenience, it's pretty easy to give up a stop or two for longer reach...

As someone who hasn't entered any of the competitions yet (though I do enjoy looking at the entries that are submitted...) I'm not really sure if I'm entitled to an opinion, but this sounds like an ideal choice for one or two weekly topics for future competitions : "Multi-Photo Images" and "Unrefined Images" (Unrefined, in this case, meaning digitally un-manipulated... Not trying to suggest that anyone is 'un-refined' )

Is this true for the FA models of these lenses as well?

I traded my 330 in on the 360 when I realized it wouldn't do P-TTL, but was always happy with it up until then. It performed very well with my PZ and MZ bodies...

Sorry - I can't speak about how it does with the Pentax DSLR's at all...

They also said there was something fundamentally wrong with the Universe....

How can you doubt that one?

Goodness there is a lot of nonsense in this thread.
It's a discussion with people mooting various points of view, all of which can be given equal space and consideration.

We could all be right, or wrong, or both.
Quite. And mine is as valid as anyone's.

So why pick it out for special mention?
Difficult to understand the logic behind taking a 'POKE' at many other opinions and then whining about a 'poke' at theirs (capitalization intentional)...

Might just be me...

What is the range people are getting fron their remote?

I'm trying to determine if mine is average, or (as I suspect) a bit challenged in the distance department...

I bought it mainly to use to trigger the camera from close range, but without shaking it by pressing the shutter release. It's great for that.

BUT...

We were shooting some large group shots (it was a family thing and I was supposed to be in the shots... ended up using the timer function...) with the camera approximately 20 feet away from the group of 50 - 60 people, and the remote would not work. It works fine within 5 or 6 feet, sometimes out to 10 or 12 feet, but I haven't done a lot of testing to get an exact distance where the signal drops off too much to trigger the camera...
