What is the range people are getting fron their remote?

I'm trying to determine if mine is average, or (as I suspect) a bit challenged in the distance department...

I bought it mainly to use to trigger the camera from close range, but without shaking it by pressing the shutter release. It's great for that.

BUT...

We were shooting some large group shots (it was a family thing and I was supposed to be in the shots... ended up using the timer function...) with the camera approximately 20 feet away from the group of 50 - 60 people, and the remote would not work. It works fine within 5 or 6 feet, sometimes out to 10 or 12 feet, but I haven't done a lot of testing to get an exact distance where the signal drops off too much to trigger the camera...

I just tried mine with the K10D.

It was reliable up to about 40 feet from the back of the camera, and up to about 30 feet from the front.

I'm not sure if the difference is significant, since I just put the camera on the floor so the sensor angle would have been different front to back. I'll try it again with a proper mount if you like, but in any case, it managed 20 feet plus easily.

I have used mine on my Ds, so only from the front, from about 10m away to get a big group, with no problems.
