Pretty much what I thought - I have a bag full of various size screw-on and cokin filters that my digital body and PC have just made obselete...

So is it worth spending more money for a good PL, or is the difference not going to be noticeable anyway, to an amateurs like myself...?

Just wanted some opinions/recommendations :

I need (I think) to pick up a polarizer... (I have a Sigma 18 - 200 - I know it's not the fastest lens available, but since I have some older Pentax glass, and since I blew my whole budget on the body.... and I guessed that after I got a little more accustomed to the camera, I'd have a better idea of what I wanted...) I used PL's all the time on my MF lenses, but 49mm just wont cut it anymore...

So, in checking a couple local camera shops, I can get a few different 62mm filters, ranging from an Optex CPL for $30 that's at least a centimeter thick, or a Nikon one (if that wouldn't be a terrible heresy) for about $130 that looks 3 or 4 mm thick. Am I going to have problems with vignetting at the short end if I get a thicker filter, and also, since I believe you pay for what you get, the $20 one can't be very good, right ?

Any ideas or sage advice for a novice...

"That's me!, That's me!" I say, suddenly realizing my cue...

Can you suggest a good book or online tutorial for us wimps and newbies ?

I don't even know the right questions to ask - I downloaded GIMP the other day - thought I'd take a look at a free one before laying out the $ for PS... I'm a computer programmer by trade, but have never done any graphics, just business stuff - so this is entirely new to me...

Thanks for the reply...

I don't suppose you'd know which field that is ? (without your taking the time to do research - I can do that...)

Hi - been lurking a while, reading everything I could about the K10D and finally took the plunge... Not that Pentax is new to me... I've had about a dozen different models, from a K1000 right up to, well, a K10D now. I even have a couple 110 slr's around somewhere...

Really impressed with this body, and the fact that my old glass works is awesome... too bad TTL is gone - I could have gone without the extra expense of a PTTL flash...

I do have a question though - I noticed in Pentax Browser that the EXIF displays what lens I use, provided it's a Pentax lens. Is there any way for me to edit the Exif and add this info for my Sigma lenses ? I've tried a few different freeware Exif Editors, but none of them even display the lens like Pentax browser...

Any Ideas?

Yeah - he mentioned that Pentax had said June at first, but realistically it was looking more like September... Not sure how he came up with the timelines, but he seemed pretty definite that it wouldn't be sooner than September...

Not sure if he was passing info. along or just making an educated guess...

"LBA hurts" - yup, it's chronic and uncurable - and if your LBA is demanding one of these DA* zooms, it's currently untreatable as well....

(but as Canadians, we're used to that sort of healthcare anyway... )

Saw this and got excited, but when I called them, they told me they're accepting pre-orders, but don't expect to see actual product until September...

The salesman told me (and I quote) "...the K10D body is taking off so successfully, it's getting hard, almost impossible, to find new fast glass for it..."

This on top of being outbid at the last second twice this morning on eeekBay - I just may tell the boss I'n not well, and go back to bed....

Just noticed this Don, and being the entrepreneur that I am.... (and also a one time short-term Winterpeg resident...)

For a modest fee (small Canadian bills, non-consecutive serial numbers) I won't mail a hardcopy of this thread to your wife....

(Actually from your description of the doghouse, you may WANT me to send it... )
