Pentax Remote Control F
Posted in General Photographic Chat
If you have a K3, the FluCard and a smartphone with the app.... If not, then a wired trigger, however remember the camera port has to be open for that and then you will not be water resistant.

Came across this little article:
Pentax K to Q 3rd party adaptor

Any recommendations? Ideally I want one to work with DA lenses as well as M lenses so will need some form of apature control. Also a tripod mount would be great.

Champagne Gold and Burgundy sounds good as well. Something will have to go to fund it, and that looks like the Ricoh GR. We'll see.Just placed my order for just that colour combination!
HD PENTAX DA AF 1.4X AW Rear Converter

Has anyone tried the converter with the Sigma 120-400 HSM lens? I have the Kenro 1.5 which works with the lens (in HSM) but IQ is worse than cropping and enlarging!

It might be worth trying the magnifying eye cup as this adds a little more camera to nose distance...

It's a great idea: I'd love to use my Contax 139 again but only with a full-frame sensor to obtain full benefit from my wide-angle lenses. But this sounds too good to be true, sadly.Fully agree, however without our support this product will never reach market. If we can all prove a market for this product, then it is more likely that a second generation model will be seen, one with a bigger sensor.

I have put in my pre-order, aware that there is no risk if there are not enough backers, and that it is possible that I will receive a small sensor version if less than 2000 backers are identified. Lets hope we can make this project a reality. You never know, maybe a 110 silicon film might follow!

Nothing wrong with it John, if that's what you want to do. I think I'd be more impressed with a digital back though, rather like the ones for medium format cameras. However, that would be a really expensive option. In theory, this will fit in all my film cameras, a digital back would likely be model spacific. Also, as this is cropped, I can use all my current digital lenses on my old camera, including my 8mm Samyang and 50 to 135 DA*!

It is all based on economy of scale - the more orders he gets, the bigger the sensor can be! For me the 4/3rds sensor size is of a real interest. The smaller options are not much better than an oversized Q! For once, it seems that we have a chance for a Digital LX, and possibly a full frame Pantax Digital - spread the word!

Back in 2000 I signed up as a tester for a project refered to as Silicon Film. Unfortunately it never happened. Fast forward to 2013 and Silocon Film is back as DigiPod! A UK developer has designed a solution and is looking for backing for a production run! IF he gets 1000 pre-orders, then this product will become a realality. However, if he gets 5000 pre-orders, then this product will have a 4/3rds sensor! Check out I have been using film in my old Pentax 5MZn and developing and lo-res scans on CD are setting me back 13.98 a film so at 199, so it will pay for itself in just 540 frames (equivalent to 15 rolls of film)!
Sigma 120-400 experiences
Posted in Lenses for Pentax Cameras
I have both the 55-300 and the 120-400 Sigma (older HSM version) and use both on a Pentax 5iis. I first used the Sigma on my K7 and I was not entirely happy with the results, however on the K5ii it performs very well, over all better than the 55-300, especially on focusing. I tend to carry the 18-135 with the 120-400 to give a full range, only taking the 55-300 when I want to travel light and tacle birds in flight - much easier to pan with the lighter lens. Though recently (yesterday!) I left the monopod at home and used the 120-400 hand held! I was most impressed. I have tried both with my Kenco 1.5 teleconverter and found the Sigma to be very soft, especially at 400 (equivalent to 600) so will not use that combination again, will just crop!
Best looking Dslr on the planet ?
Posted in Pentax Digital SLRs
In the future, The sensor will be thin enough to place it at the same position where the Film pressure plate used to be. there will be only 1 SMD IC witch will do the whole job and the display screen will also be very thin. it could even stick a few mm out, without making the camera look bulky and the rest should be easy. However keep the K-mount. Regards, HorstColour e-ink already exists! Ramp up the refresh rate and that is the LCD you are talking about! I have also heard reference to light sensitive grafine sheet that would be thin.

Unfortunately, the camera would have to be fatter to allow for the lens to film plane distance to be correct, then the added LCD on the back! Perhaps with a new lens design, or a 4/3rds sensor!

F.S. Metz Mecablitz 48AF-1 Digital Electronic Flash
Posted in Classified Adverts
This is an excelent Flash at a great price! It is my main gun, prefer it to the Metz 58 as it is a little more compact and just as versitile. If I was not looking for a more compact flash to complete my 3 flash set up I would grab this one!
Replacement Monitor
Posted in General Digital Photography chat
Purchased a Samsung S22A300H about a year ago - full HD with HDMI and standard monitor input. Also very happy with it. It has now been supersceeded, but Samsung produce great value monitors. Don't forget to check that your graphics card is up to producing the monitor's max resolution.

Perhaps it is time to try and change history by all writing to Sigma (sales@sigma-imaging-uk.com) and telling them how beautiful and desirable this lens is and how much you would love to own one - in a Pentax PK2 mount! It is worth a try and what is there to lose?
Pentax K5 IIS - really reliable?
Posted in Pentax Digital SLRs
Hi to all. I started this topic so I feel obligated to write as everything was finished :) At first thank you all for advices what and how to check what happend with my photo camera. In the service it showed that faulty was image sensor. I was really worried about replacement this the most important element in the camera but after waiting 2 weeks I've got... totally new body as replacement what makes me really happy in this situation. I have to say that Pentax showed is worth the trust. Now camera works perfectly and I am very happy of it. It was probably faulty from beginning because there were always some problems to get proper white balance and now everything works perfectly :) This time I would like to give one advice to all of you who wants to buy a new photo camera. Try to buy it always from the "approved" shops, especially by the internet. I was a lucky man that I bought mine from such place so I have a proper guarantee. Without it would it be verry costly for me. 8)Glad everything has worked out and you can now enjoy your camera again. Also, very sound advice!
is this PC spec ok?
Posted in General Digital Photography chat
I agree, 12GB ram will provide you with better performance, if you can stretch to 2*8GB Modules that would be great. The Samsung SSD looks a little under par on write speed, the Corsair 120GB Force 3 SSD - SATA-III 2.5 appears to perform significantly faster - if this is your first build using SSDs, take a close look at performance on read and write and the effect of write speed degradation due to TRIM. You may need to take a look at the graphics card if you are running two monitors - the ASUS monitor has HDMI and the best setups use identicle monitors (note you will need to independently colour calibrate each monitor) and your graphics card would be best if it supported two HDMI outputs, this means the integrated graphis may limit you.

[quote:3496ace15f="Mike-P"]Wouldn't hold my breath for a K mount version.+1 I'm still waiting for Tamron to release the 70-300 USD but I can't see it happening anytime soon. JohnYou'll have a very long wait I'm afraid. Tamron told me they won't be making lenses with K mount.:( [/quote] When the Tamron 18-270 came out with no K mount version in sight I was dissappointed and ended up getting the 18-135WR instead. Then Pentax brought their own version of the same design!

Just spotted the same on DP! Very exciting development, let's hope they don't forget Pentax. You won't need the K3 with this baby!
New scanning device
Posted in General Digital Photography chat
Scanning device arrived today, took about 5 mins to set up and these are the first results, the only adjustment (appart from colour reversal!) was to ajust colour balance, so this is the contrast and exposure straight from the divice: Vinyetting is from the lens as I used my MZ5n with the DA*50-135.

I have a Plustek 7500i neg/slide scanner. I think if you've got a pre-digital collection of negatives that presumably have a lot of nostalgic or historical value ( or are even still shooting on film ) you'd want to use something a tad better than this smart phone scanner to digitise them. Product makes no sense to meMost likely a dedicated scanner would be better, however this is very compact and with my 12MP camera phone, the only way to know how good it is to give it a go. As long as it does not scratch my negatives  it's worth a go for me.
