K3iii a few initial thoughts
Posted in Pentax Digital SLRs
This would interest me to as the SDM motor has given up on my 16-50 and have considered the 'screw drive fix' over a repair.I would recommend the 'screw drive fix' - I did mine last year and speed seems similar to before, only real difference is that it isn't as quiet as SDM. I've seen several reports of SDM repairs having the same issue some time later :(I've had two SDM failures on my 50-135, so screw drive fix it will be for the 16-50!

I wonder if anyone has a screw drive converted 16-50 for comparison. This would interest me to as the SDM motor has given up on my 16-50 and have considered the 'screw drive fix' over a repair.

I have been looking into this lens a bit and I would love to own one! I think it would be a fun addition to my current K5iis and would likely pair very well with the new flagship APS-C when it's released (hopefully) later this year.
Aww the K-5 ii.....
Posted in Pentax Digital SLRs
My K-5 iis have served me very well for the past 7 years! No other newer camera has tempted me to move! I have loved the Pentax ergonomics since my MZ5n. But have to agree, the later models haven't bettered the 5! I have high hopes for the new APS-C flagship, as I do want some of the faster processing, better low-light performance, I just want it in the K-5 body!
Pentax K1 ii vs Sony a7iii?
Posted in Pentax Digital SLRs
[quote:3496ace15f="stub"] Ps the Sony can fire a TTL flash off camera... Something the Pentax still Cant..... Sure? What are for then?Lol... I'm talking away from the camera not by the side of it....And something a little more modern..."Wireless" perhaps...?[/quote] But it's only a rumour!:P
Q news?

Still, it's a useful camera and it doesn't stop us enjoying it. I use mine wherever a DSLR would be frowned upon. A Q-S1 doesn't even raise an eyebrow.Same here, just what I used to use my Audit 110 for! It will be coming with me to the World Athletics Probably with Lens adaptor and the old A50mm F1.4 and the DFA100 Macro - just need a mini tripod solution for stability and looking at this:
SLR Magic Toy Lens for Q
Posted in Lenses for Pentax Cameras
Was looking through DPReview news and found an old post regarding an SLR Magic Toy lens from April 2012. However, I can't find any further information! I would like to acquire this lens if possible, so does any one know if it ever saw the light of day and if it is possible to get hold of?
KP...What Do You Think?
Posted in Pentax Digital SLRs
I think this is an interesting camera - Pentax are again testing something new (for Pentax) - a touch screen (though there are differing reports on this - it really should have one if it doesn't!) and interchangeable grips (I think the LX had that!). As for the price, just look at the GBP exchange rate, this time last year, this would have been 200 cheaper! Also, this has the Star Tracker and a built in Flash and high speed electronic shutter! According to the specification on the Pentax site it has a dual card slot and WiFi. It's not for me but does make the Pentax 3iii (wonder what they will call it) look like a worthy high end APS-C camera, I just hope I can afford it!
Choices, Choices...

I assume you've got a fair selection of FF capable lenses that are just aching to be used to their true potentialI'm not convinced they will! Results of older FF lenses on my K7 and K5iis have been soft, then I like the slightly retro look. And using them on my Q S1 really does give me a hint of what these lenses will do on a 36MP sensor! I for one if I get the K-1 am already budgeting (in my mind) 3000 for decent lenses to cover my current DA*s. Or use them with the sensor cropped - should still outperform my K5iis even if only in just focus capability.
Ricoh Pentax awful customer service

Yes the paint does wear off the magnesium alloy. Ask any kid who collected such painted metals as toy cars as a kid! I used a matt black indelible marker pen on such to tidy up small wear spots. My K3 is already showing such metal, I must be over using it! Silly me :-)I seem to recall a post once talking about 'brassing' as a positive thing that added charm to a camera in a retro way. Welcome to modern 'brassing'

For years I knew that I was very happy with my ASP-C Pentax and I didn't need full frame! But the K1 is so beautiful! And I can still use all those ASP-C lenses I bought! HELP!
Pentax Optio i10 Battery change problem

I had this problem with my Pentax Q. I formatted the SD card in the camera and had no trouble since. I hope this works for you.Thank you, this is what I had read elsewhere, so will give that a go and post back the result.
Pentax Optio i10 Battery change problem
Posted in Troubleshooter
With these cameras, when you set the date and time double check that you have scrolled down on the final screen to save changes. If the date and time isn't confirmed it will need constantly re-entering. It's one Pentax menu design element that is actually prone to error.I have done that one a few times before, but not this time. But agree it is a menu design flaw.
Pentax Optio i10 Battery change problem

When I change the battery in my Pentax Optio i10 the time, date and file number resets and I have to re-enter time and date. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a cure? I have read elsewhere that the SD card can cause this behaviour.
How sharp is that 150-450mm

I have been resisting putting this lens on my wanted list as I have the Sigma 120-400 (and it's full frame) that performs well enough for my needs, however, this lens is looking more and more like a significant upgrade!
Same old story - where is Pentax?

I have only ever seen one digital medium format camera in the wild and it was a Pentax!
Opteka Extension Tubes for the Q Series
Posted in Pentax Mirrorless Cameras
AF worked, but due to field testing being inside the butterfly house at London Zoo I was not using a tripod, I used AF to get the initial lock and focus peaking to support when to press the shutter button the rest of the way.

I have the same! However I have only been able to get success with the 06 lens and the smallest tube as any other set up meant I was too close and light was limited. Have I missed a trick?
The Best Camera in the world...
Posted in General Photographic Chat
It was a fairly laborious way to make a point and I'm not sure it didn't end up being a bit puerile, but there was a point I think. The point I thought was that there is no such thing as the best camera in the world, just the fastest, biggest, smallest, highest resolution..... Also, a camera is only as good as two things: it's lens and it's user.

Did you not read the comments at the very bottom  --Yes I did! Especially the one about the Polar bear! Perhaps a pointless article, but that's the point isn't it?
"Q" tastic!
Posted in Pentax Mirrorless Cameras
are all the cheap plastic versions the same with no contacts etc? They are not plastic and certainly don't seem cheap in the sense of badly made. The one I bought, for about 40 I think, seems to be made of brass, is finished very well and the bayonet is smooth as silk. If you can get one that has a variable aperture that would be helpful.I though I was getting one with the variable aperture, but no! It is useless on all my best and brightest lenses as they do not have there own aperture ring - so can only use my A and M lenses. Still great fun, but less useful. Was so hoping to put it on the Sigma 120 to 400!

Or a pait of cheap reading glasses in my case ;) Beautiful shot Dave :) I have Q and adapter available in the classifieds if anyone's interested?I leave the glasses behind (generally because I forgot them!) and use focus peaking!
