Fortnightly Competition #31 - Juxtaposition

Right, time to judge. BTW I missed out Xmas in my post above (I was tired!). It should have read 'traditional last minute Xmas rush' - I wasn't moaning about late entries! Quite the contrary, for a while it looked like I'd only have a few to choose from, which was disappointing. I think that if I...

Entries for Fortnightly Competition # 40 - Industrial Landscape

I hope you’ve enjoyed it all, it was my First competition and the First time being a Judge so hopefully everything went quite right ^^; Now to the judging, I’m not going to chit chat so if I sound short to the point then you got that right :) I’ll open all the photos in a separate screen so it wil...

Entries for Fortnightly Competition #43- Faces

Congratulations to all the entries. Great fun. I was on my way to this guy - 'the friendly monster tree' when I saw the set up for the dog. I entered the dog as I thought it was funnier. Both pictures are rubbish because my K20D developed its latest fault - which was to activate sensor cleaning ...

Comments Fortnightly Competition #56 - Abstract impressionism

I think we will all recognise the dreaded blotches occuring on the K5 sensor before long - at least those who can afford ! Tony

Entries for Fortnightly Competition #66 Spring has Sprung

Firstly, thank you to everyone who has taken the time and effort in entering this fortnight. There are some really interesting shots here, and I like how some of you have taken the subject literally. It has taken me some time to look through all the varied entries, so I hope you don't mind my commen...

Weekly competition 261 Wide angle

Maybe a bit late now, but perhaps this should have been stated as up to 35mm full frame equivalent or whatever was intended. A 35mm lens on a APS-C sensor has a field of view equivalent to approximately 53mm on full frame which is normally considered to be a standard lens and its equivalent on a Pen...

Penny macro contest - revisited

Stan, the whole rig was bending with the weight and I had "cleaned" (aka spread/moved dust over) the sensor so that's probably bent too. Then there's the penny and photographer to consider .... ;)

Penny macro contest - revisited

Stan, the whole rig was bending with the weight and I had "cleaned" (aka spread/moved dust over) the sensor so that's probably bent too. Then there's the penny and photographer to consider .... ;) Wonder if pentax will fit a little rug at the end of the sensor for sweeping the dust under :D

Penny macro contest - revisited

Not sure how this fits into the 'rules' but just out of interest here's a version with the Q, which is a bit like cropping (cheating) :) The only lens able to resolve the detail onto that tiny sensor was the 100mm macro on about 100mm of extension tubes.

Penny macro contest - revisited

:twisted::D:D:D:D Excellent! You just can't stop now, Steve, can you.....?? APSC frame size is about 24mm long, I dread to think what the height of the penny letters is, say 0.5 mm. Have you calculated the mag ratio onto the sensor? Could it really be 40x odd? What scale ...

Penny macro contest - revisited

You just can't stop now, Steve, can you.....?? Not until the Q-S1 has been given a fair chance to show what it can do :twisted:!! Might also try the original Q, which has an even smaller sensor. The letters on the penny do seem to be 0.5mm (top to bottom). A quick on-screen measurement...

Weekly compeition #469 'Movement'

Out of interest what on earth is ICM? Google suggests: International Confederation of Midwives; Institute of Commercial Management; Integrated Cleaning Management (amongst others) but I suspect the reference here is none of those!

Weekly #552 - Still life with bottles Competition

I didn't think taking photographs was this complex. Surely, rules on still life or any other genre shouldn't be this rigid. Paul I totally agree, if the definition being used is uncertain it SHOULD be clarified in the competition description before the comp starts. An example I keep running in...
