Pentax K3 III Monochrome
In the official Pentax store here in Spain the monochrome version has a €500 premium over the original price of the standard model, which now has a €300 discount, bringing the difference to €800. That's a very hard sell. is it though? It's a unique camera appealing to a relatively small number o...

Pentax K3 III Monochrome
It's a unique camera appealing to a relatively small number of users at a price that is considerably less than the alternatives in other form factors and sensor sizes (Digital MF backs or Rangefinder APS-C). I think this will be a success for Pentax, even if it is fairly small scale. +1 Al...

Pentax K3 III Monochrome
I think this will be a success for Pentax, even if it is fairly small scale I agree, especially when considering that the development costs for this camera will be far less than what is usual. The body and controls are K-3 III so apart from the sensor and tweaks to the processor I expect most of the...

Pentax K3 III Monochrome
I agree it’s a great idea and a bold move. The problem for me is the YouTube videos including Ricoh’s own promotion use landscape and wildlife examples, none of which to me look better than if shot in colour. For instance, a stand of white birches with dead bracken providing the only colour of lovel...

Lightroom AI driven Denoise!
I've recently seen a pretty convincing review of this AI noise reduction by some of the astrophotography folks on youtube in the context of nebula shots. The results look extremely good but close analysis seems to reveal the AI actually adding detail rather than just cleaning up the image or sharpe...

Canon confession and other compact thoughts
I got the brief from my better half to find a compact camera which would work reasonably well for natural light (generally wider shots) and have a moderate zoom function for travel etc. Also on the wish list were a touch of retro design and a fixed rear screen, as well as Wi-Fi and touch screen, ...

Canon confession and other compact thoughts
Buy yourself a used Panasonic Lumix lx7, on the side:wink: Smaller sensor but very capable with its Leica 1.4 lens and shoots raw and its a much slimmer profile than the lx100 which just about makes it comfortably pocketable, i have one from new. No electronic viewfinder as standard but one is ...

Canon confession and other compact thoughts
I have a Ricoh GRII that I use quite a lot. Wonderful camera with a superb lens and sensor. Me too, and agree with your comment about it's quality. It's also really easy to carry around.

Canon confession and other compact thoughts
Some of my favourite images have come from my Ricoh GR's (II then III) - it doesn't have the flexibility in terms of lenses (the Wide adaptors are very good but very clunky) but the quality of image and sensor size move it up in my rankings above the MX-1 and Q series although all have their strong ...

Canon confession and other compact thoughts
I'm another MX-1 user, it's easy to switch between it and my K1ii for operating system. But it's easy to slip in a bag or big pocket. The image quality is outstanding for 12meg sensor.

AF Button/Back Focus
Sounds like it's working as it should. The back button is replacing a half press of the shutter button, the action of which is given in my K3 manual as "When the shutter release button is pressed halfway and the subject comes into focus, the focus is locked at that position.". From the camera's p...

Global Shutter
Interesting release of the new Sony a9 III sporting its new Global Shutter and what it possibly means for the future of digital photography. Not cheap at 6k but i'm sure even at that price it's likely to prove a big hit. I wonder if that sensor will find its way into a Pentax camera any time soon:ro...

Global Shutter
For most everyday use the global shutter is not needed. If you are photographing fast-moving objects you will get distortion unless you use a global shutter. The classic example is the propellers of an airplane where the blades look curved instead of straight. It takes more "horsepower" to read the ...

KF v Full Frame
As an addendum to LennyBloke's info.... Full frame DSLR's are usually at the higher end of model ranges. Thus they tend to produce much better images. With better noise control, better metering, better colour rendition, and better definition. Drawback is cost, not just interns of body price, but ...

KF v Full Frame
As a hobby photographer, what real benefit of buying a DSLR Full Frame Pentax over ... It's a question I've asked myself once or twice since the K1 came out. I've stayed with APS-C for several reasons, which might or might not be relevant to you, for example: - Weight and size. I'm not getting any...

KF v Full Frame
Steve, The crop on FF will still give you the same image as a cropped sensor. But.... Can understand the weight thing. It's like having a bolder hanging off your shoulder :lol: K3 next to a 5D MkII:lol:

KF v Full Frame
The crop on FF will still give you the same image as a cropped sensor. Yes, but not as many pixels for sensors of the same technology and generation. Crop the K1 ii sensor to APS-C leaves about 16 Mpx, the K3 line has about 25 Mpx. It's a trade-off between number and size of pixels, with implication...
