KF v Full Frame
Just to follow up dadidwozhere's point about cost of FF lenses. The prices of new, latest generation, Pentax FF and APS-C lenses with similar fields of view are much the same. Examples (full prices): DA 11-18mm f2.8 (APS-C) £1,199, D-FA 15-30mm f2.8 (FF) £1,629 so APS-C is a bit cheaper; DA 16-50mm ...

KF v Full Frame
It's an interesting debate and one that will continue for as long as there are different sensor sizes. My take..... All my digital cameras are APS-C. I mainly shoot with the compact KP which I really enjoy, a pleasure to have with me, over my shoulder all day. As others here are I'm sure, I was a...

Barred but not banned
I would suspect that the strobing of the lights, which our eyes would not notice, is falling foul of the way the sensor is read. Except for global sensors it is usual for the information to be read a line at a time, resulting in an effect called rolling shutter distortion. The light will be on or of...

B@W monochrome GR
Latest rumours that Ricoh will release a GR monochrome, before they're new Colour version GR iv. Maybe in less than six months time. I presume it will be the same crop sensor from the Kiii monochrome inside ? Street photographers will love this, a Leica killer stealth pocketable.

New Ricoh GR IV
Showcases in Tokyo and shanghai on May 30th, micro sd card, 5 axis stabilisation 26 mp sensor, so sounds like the k3 iii sensor possibly. No announcement for an X version (40mm) yet. Just saying:wink:

Editing
I use Affinity Photo for editing. It processes PEF and DNG Raw files and just about any other type of image file you throw at it. People say it has the capabilities of Lightroom/Photoshop (never used them myself so can't confirm) except that it doesn't have cataloguing so you've got to organise your...

Editing
I prefer to keep my editing basic as opposed to some photographers whose images bares no resemblance to the original. I hear the sound of the worm-can being opened ! I do spend a lot of time on editing, and hopefully the end result is a lot better than the original, and more importantl...

Cropping
I posted a photo in the gallery this morning and mentioned my love of the DFA 21mm f2.4 Limited because of how much cropping can be done - here is the original and the cropped version of the photo, my preference is for the cropped one (hence the post to the gallery) but the real point is that using ...

Cropping
For me, getting it right in camera is a luxury that is possible only when there is plenty of time available - which there usually isn't. Tripod, get the framing right, wait for the clouds to shift a bit... those were the days! But circumstances have changed. Now it's usually a matter of getting it a...

What would peoples reaction be If...
KAF4 lenses could be key. You could still have on-sensor AF points and use live-view to get the in-body focus motors to work their magic. It'd create a pseudo mirrorless mode that could eventually bring Pentax back into that market if it proves successful with our stubborn, viewfinder loving user...

Weekly Competition #4 - "Flight"
The competition for this week has now closed and we await ChrisA's deliberations with keen interest. Well I've had a really tough time with this; never judged a photo competition before, and I take my hat off to those that do it regularly. I console myself with Ammonyte's genius comment a couple of...

Wood Man: 'A casual portrait at home' Pentax K10D Pentax SMC-A 50mm 1:1.7 ISO 100 1/60 sec f/1.7 50mm Single point tungsten halogen lamp for warm lighting and shadows. Bit of straightening, think my sensor or viewfinder may be off slightly (not a big problem though). Now you ha...

Weekly Competition 22 : RED
Ok here are the results. I am not an expert so any views are just my take on the picture. I hope I don't upset too many people. McBrian Lovely shot, beautifully composed and exposed. The texture and detail of the dress keeps my eyes wandering around the image. The stool itself adds to the c...

Weekly Competition No 23 : Light
Please remind me not to win this again, must be one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, remember I'm no expert at this. :-) AlfaFoxtrot: Very nice perspective of a lit Eiffel Tower, pushed a bit too far in processing for my liking although this may be due to the use of high iso in a small ...

Weekly Competition No. 30 "One of My Best Photos"
Competition # 30 “One of My Best Photos”. This competence is a bit different than the previous ones, because the images presented here had passed across a rigorous selection done by the respective authors. Too much negative critique must not be expected here, but in counterpart a lot of praise co...

Weekly competition 34: Street furniture
Not sure what you mean about cloning out the mark. On the second complete upright, near the top by the handrail, is a small crescent shaped mark. Looks a bit fuzzy so it may be a small dust fibre on the sensor, the small aperture used would point to this too. However it might just be a mark on the...
