An evolutionary dead end?

if pentax were smart they'd make a 645 mirrorless with 4k raw video out that crops the sensor with kmount adaptors For a market of just one person?? At what cost!!! (Shift key not working?)

is it doomed

Sadly I am one that is starting to move to another brand. There is no one main reason for the move. A lack of lens choice, a lack of choice in general, and the AF is what has done it for me. I wanted a 70-200 f2.8 in the days of my K10. I am pretty sure Pentax did not do one back then, hence a Ta...

is it doomed

Just as an observation, I think Pentax/Ricoh have been caught in a changing market. Their cameras are just as good as they ever were for taking photos. That hasn't changed and capability wise in this area they are still fine. What has changed though is customers expectations of what a camera ...

is it doomed

˄ Agree. In terms of tech Canon and Nikon are perceived as playing catch up with Sony FF mirrorless right now, but Pentax seems to still be playing catch up with where Canon and Nikon were several years ago. Pentax can't rely on sensor/image quality any more, now it's the camera features tha...

is it doomed

Pentax can't rely on sensor/image quality any more, now it's the camera features that make the difference. Oh that’s a really good point there. Pentax has always been able to eek more out of a given sensor than the rest. To put imaginary numbers on it, they could get 48 where the rest would get...

Pentax interchangeable lens compact.

The lightest Pentax DSLR is the KS-1 - a great little camera that uses all the K mount lenses. The KS-2 is a little newer but slightly heavier. If money is no object then look at the KP. https://www.dpreview.com/products/compare/side-by-side?products=pentax_k01&products=pentax_ks1&products=pentax...

Not likely to make a new Pentax purchase this weekend. No Special offers !!!

I think the problem lies with the speed of the processor in the camera. You're right that software changes would be needed but that only works if the the processor can execute the software fast enough to keep up with the frame rate. I haven't examined this recently but frame by frame analysis of man...

Are Pentax just to expensive? I have recently purchase a K3ii. Currys are offering Nikon / Canon 24M cameras at £300-400, their Sony comes with a lens, top LCD and on camera stabilization at £500. OK I have a few Pentax lenses and flashes which would be costly to replace, but if and when I next u...

I can honestly attest that the AF on my sony hxr nx80 camcorder is as fast as the af on my d-slr, if not faster... and it DEFINITELY tracks moving subjects better... so if that af system says anyhting about the hybrid af in the mirrorless cameras.. then Pentax better be worried... It's not unusual ...

You've ignored what he was saying. A smaller sensor leads to a greater depth of field which means it's easier to get focus. You're also correct though by saying some systems focus faster than the Pentax system. It doesn't make the above any less true in the case of most compacts/camcorders.

Lens protection filters

What lens protection filters do you use, if any? I tend to use UV filters to protect the lens and avoid repeatedly cleaning it, but have found they can have an adverse effect. The worst affected is the macro 100mm, I spent a happy hour photographing insects in Cornwall only to find they are all poor...

Lens protection filters

I've got a Hoya Fusion Antistatic UV filter for my 24-70mm lens. I haven't noticed any image deterioration, but it makes safely cleaning the front element much less of a problem. I've never really bothered with them before, but this lens was pretty expensive and has a big non-recessed front element....

Lens protection filters

Back in the era of the Pentax ME Super, Olympus OM10, Minolta X300, Yashica FXD and the like, skylight or UV filters were sold as protection and haze reduction for the lens but even then there was debate over possible flare and IQ degradation (this argument was usually countered by offering the more...

Lens protection filters

I must one of the very few who use good quality UV or Skylight filters over lenses (not that I've ever encountered any issues with sharpness). Cleaning a filter is much safer than repeatedly cleaning the front element - I've lost count of the number of fingerprints end up on my filters (maybe I'm a ...

Spots

I've got a few stubborn spots on my sensor. Am I right in assuming that the positions on the sensor and the picture are a complete reversal. I.e Bottom left corner = top right.

Spots

If your camera has the dust detection system (I think K-5 onward) then it shows it as if you were looking at the sensor. It does all the reversing for you.
