Then there was the use of tilt/shift lenses to correct vertical perspective, and also where a centred shot is wanted but you need to stand off centre. As far as I know there are only a Samyang 24mm TS lens and three Steiner-Kreutzmar TS lenses in K-mount but I completely forgot that the K1 gives a s...

Architectural photography
Thanks Jak, but I guess the Pentax shift lens (no tilt) is as rare as hens' teeth and priced accordingly. We received an explanation why film era lenses do not have to be so critically designed for sharpness as digital lenses (to do with the thickness of the film emulsion compared to the sensor surf...

Shift lenses will still have distortion which needs correcting anyway so their advantage isn't that big. -- Er, no, that is the whole point! I use DXO Viewpoint for perspective correction in processing at present but the more correction is needed the more you lose from cropping. The shortest foca...

Pentax unique mirrorless ideas.
As I mentioned previously, if you want a Pentax APS-C mirrorless the K-01 is it! Can you explain why you feel an adapter is needed for full control of FA, DAF and DA lenses as they're native lenses for Pentax. Are your thoughts about using them on your Olympus? If its that, Pentax isn't likely to...

DA* lenses - any good on K1 ?
Hi Folks! Has anyone had experience of using DA* lenses with a K1 ? I have a DA* 16-50mm and DA* 50-135mm which I’ve been using on a K10D. I’m thinking of upgrading to either a K3 or a K1. I know the DA* lenses are designed for use with the APS-C sized sensor used in both the K10D and the K3...

DA* lenses - any good on K1 ?
Hi Dave You will get some vignetting (darkening of the edge of the frame) and possibly some softness towards the edges. The 16-50 will suffer most as its ability to cover the sensor is compromised at the wider settings. But you can of course use the K1 in Crop mode, where it will adjust the am...

DA* lenses - any good on K1 ?
Thank you to Cedricd for comments also... so from what you say, a K1 using a DA* lens in cropped mode is producing BETTER images than a K3 using the same lens; even though the DA* lens is optimised to work with the APS-C sensor in the K3. That certainly gives me food for thought. I think I will d...

DA* lenses - any good on K1 ?
I have used both the DA* 60-250 and DA* 300 on the K1 in FF mode. The 300 was based of a FF design and covers the larger sensor with no problems. The 60-250 has some vignetting, but is easily dealt with either by cropping or correcting in pp. There is also a baffle-removal modification that can be d...

What other manufacturer bodies take K mount lenses
All Pentax lenses are compatible at some level (often no AF) with most modern mirrorless cameras via cheap adapters. Almost no Pentax bodies offer AF in video mode, so there's no real loss of functionality, from a video perspective that is. The original K-5 is mighty old in tech years now. I...

Adobe Lightroom - Now Subscription Only
I had a look at Affinity Photo and had the impression it was more like Photoshop software i.e. not having the organisation capabilities of LR. But for the money seemed very good. Just now I'm running a trail version of ACDsee to see how that works. So far so good, as it seems to have most of the fea...

Tethering
Thanks for all the suggestions. At present I'm using my K-70 to take images with a microscope and the tilting viewscreen prevents me having to look over the top of everything. The only snag is the remote control sensor is underneath as the camera is facedown and there is always the chane of me accid...

35 mm trannies to jpegs
As with most things, consistency is going to be a big problem (framing, colour, exposure etc.). I had a scanner that was supposed to be able to scan 4 slides in a carrier at a go - in reality only the first slide was lined up correctly with the scanner frame. Cleaning up the scan and identifying/st...

Is Flickr Dying
Flickr '2019 Your Best Shot Winners' announced and it's great to see that the first of the best five (out of 17,000+ submissions) is a Pentaxian with an enthralling photograph: Over the Edge by Robert Span. I found his comment fascinating: How this moment was captured: “It was taken on a late s...

Curved sensor
So the rumour as it that Ricoh are bringing out a 36mp curved sensor If true what would the advantage of the curved sensor and will it make it's way on to the forth coming Pentax cameras

Curved sensor
I think this is a Sony development, The idea being that the distance from the lens to the edge of the sensor is the same as to the centre, so eliminating distortion. Don’t know how that would work with the various Pentax features which move the sensor around like SR and pixel shift though.

Curved sensor
It's been done before with cameras with curved pressure plates for film. The idea was that it compensated for cheap lenses that were mass produced. I'm sure in a modern context that won't be the reason though!

Curved sensor
When talking about curved sensors I presume it is actually spherical, a one plane curved sensor would be a lens makers nightmare.

Curved sensor
When talking about curved sensors I presume it is actually spherical, a one plane curved sensor would be a lens makers nightmare. Quite so, and would it need to change with different lenses and focal lengths? The physics is way beyond me. And, when exported to a flat format live view, screen or pri...

Curved sensor
And, when exported to a flat format live view, screen or print does the image not simply revert to what would have been recorded on a flat sensor? They may do something opposite (or inverse) of what lens correction does?
