Hi & Merry Xmas

Going back to the OP's question, my advice is still to concentrate on the kit lens for a start. For studio portraits maybe a "better" lens would be appropriate, but for child photography and general walkabout, I feel the kit lens will be of great value for a long time. The Catch-in focus techniqu...

Another Newbie!

Hi! I just registered also. I have been a Pentax lover for a long time. But just recently got back into really using my cameras. At the moment I only own two KXes and a KM, and some 50mm lenses plus one screw mount 135mm super Takumar. I also have some other equipment which I plan to sell in orde...

No K20D's available to try out

Hyram I'm in a village called Yateley, North Hampshire, near the Berkshire border. Thats a pity, I am on the outskirts (Bournemouth side) of the New Forest and hopefully will be back today for a week with my K10D. You are a little bit too far away, otherwise ou could have had a play.

No K20D's available to try out

If you think the D90 kit lens had a quality focus ring then when you try out the K20d ask if they have any of the all metal limited Pentax primes for you to try with it. If you're into manual focus then Pentax is a great choice for you. Many excellent old manual lenses can be picked up cheaply on...

Hello and intro

Hello to all I seem to have gone about things a bit back to front as I started my participation by posting pictures and comments (wrongly as I found out later ) before introducing myself... So, I thought I'd correct this and say a little hello. I am Bernadette, from France originally but...

Joined last week / New K20D Yesterday!

There are lots of bits you could and should buy, but I think the priority should be to buy a lens that does full justice to the camera. Wide-range zooms, like the 18-250, are very convenient, but convenience comes at a price, and part of that price is image quality. So buy a second-hand Pentax 5...

I knew that buying the 18-250 was in fact buying into convenience, and with the associated optical consequences. However, as a first lens, I thought it would be a good place to start. It was a good choice as an all-rounder walkabout lens. There's not much in the way of photographic opportunity that ...

Greetings from Norfolk

Hello everyone, Just a quick hello from Norfolk. Been into photography since I was a kid in the mid-70s. Started out with the compulsory (but dreadful) Kodak Instamatic, progressing to the equally compulsory Praktica in the early 80s. My first Pentax came in about '84 in the form of a K1000, adding...

Greetings from Norfolk

Now you're ready to dial away from AUTO PICT on your K100D and have some fun! WOT?!?! You mean, you mean... move away from the A? :o But Pentax have spent years putting A's all over my camera, who am I to move away? :P Actually, I have done that and more today. I tried out RAW for the first tim...

Hello! :)

Hi, I'm Richard from the south coast of the UK. I'm an avid amateur, and just getting back into the scene after a small pause between spending a fortune on film and getting a digital SLR. I bit the bullet and bought a K20D about a month ago, and love it so far.

Pentax "nut"

Hi, Pentaxians. I have been a Pentax user for many years, on and off. I still have a couple of “Film” cameras one 35mm and a 110 kit with films for both but very rarely use them now. My main cameras are a lovely K20D and a K200D I also have a Panasonic FZ28 bridge that...
