Hello everyone

For sale, one Pentax 6x7 later model with Mirror Lock-Up. The body has the original strap fitted.
The meter prism is a later model as well, with the newer Pentax logo as opposed to Asahi Pentax.
The 90mm f/2.8 also seems to be a later model, being SMC Pentax and with rubber grip on the focus ring. It is the regular 90mm, not the leaf shutter one. The lens hood is also included, as is a UV filter to protect the front element.

Everything is in very good condition; I doubt it was used professionally since it has none of the dings, scratches etc I see on many 6x7s.
It also works fine; shutter speeds accurate, aperture stopping down properly, lens focusing smooth, and meter accurate and working.

While I have not had a full service done (it hasn't needed it), I have had the door seals replaced by a professional recently.

It really is in very nice condition, therefore I am asking for £300... but will certainly consider offers. I'd prefer to sell everything together, but again I'll hear offers.

Meetup for inspection or collection is possible in London, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire or Hertfordshire. Otherwise I will of course be happy to post it.

Long train of thought coming...

Well they do need to replace the existing kit... I know most of us are very happy with the current range, and will continue to use our *Ists or K10ds for years to come, but in this market I wouldn't want to be the company that tries to persuade most consumers that an "old" camera is good enough when every other company offers a "new" one. So I think it's important for them to have new offerings in the entry level and mid level.

As for complementing the range, I guess it depends on what you mean... if bodies, I think the entry and mid level are the ones to concentrate on. A really expensive "high end" body, maybe even the dreaded f*** f**** or the mythical 645D, would be nice for those who could afford it but I don't think it would be wise of Pentax to prioritise that over the entry and mid levels. One idea that has occurred to me, something that I personally would like and which I can see appealing to quite a lot of people, is the idea of a more compact dSLR... I see plenty of people choose a compact over a dSLR, despite knowing a dSLR offers better control and quality and cost not being a factor, simply because they don't want to carry a dSLR around. But if an APS-C dSLR could be made smaller (most importantly flatter, removing the grip) - essentially a digital MX - then the combination of that and Pentax's pancake lenses would be a dSLR you can put in your pocket or under your jacket... I can see it appealing to potential first-time dSLR buyers, and to existing Pentax users, and also it would be something unique to Pentax in the dSLR market. But that's just my pet idea. Beyond bodies: The area where they could and should complement the range is of course lenses, but now it's looking very promising... new macro, new zooms, two long primes one being fast... should keep everyone happy for a while; I know I will be when I can get my hands on one of those teles.

So as I see it they're complementing the range where it matters most - lenses - and they're replacing the existing kit because they have to. Many of us have things we'd ideally like to see from Pentax... I mentioned that 'slim' dSLR, some others are desperate for a 35mm sensor or the 645D, but for Pentax to go for any of these would be risky especially if done so at the expense of the more important conventional entry and mid levels. And personally, as someone who was impressed by the K10d but not enough so to replace a K100d (while the K20d looks to be a whole other matter), I'm glad they decided to replace the existing kit. Hi all. Got a good deal on a 6x7 (later mirror lock-up model)... with TTL prism (later model)... and 90mm f/2.8 lens (you guessed it, later model)... really quite happy Of course, I know I don't need it... could have put the money towards funds for the next dSLR instead, processing and scanning film is a hassle etc... but I just couldn't stop myself.

So I'm now after any, um, stuff for the 6x7. Specifically...
55mm or 45mm lenses.
Waist-level prism.
Focusing screens (Bright, split-screen, or grid lines).
Diopters / eyecups.
Wooden grip.

Beyond that... well like I said, any 6x7 (or 67)-related stuff, things or bits. As always I'll check the 'bay but thought I'd see if there's anyone here who wants to get rid of some 67 gear. If you are that person, please reply or PM here.

Good point, especially a 500mm lens at max f/6.3. Even with good light you'd probably be using the higher ISOs a lot. I was thinking a lens with more range might be useful if the trip is a guided one where your movements are a bit restricted; being stuck in a jeep etc. If you can move around more freely I'd go for the 100-300mm. Either way I like Gwyn's suggestion of a bean bag; that and SR would help.

I agree there is basically no chance of renting anything in a Pentax mount. You can however buy a lens (100-300mm and 50-500mm are both available from some shops), and then sell it on when you finish your holiday. As long as it's still in good condition, you won't have any trouble selling and you won't lose too much on it on eBay (or here!), because of the demand for long glass in the Pentax mount. This might even work out cheaper than renting!

At £580 I might be inclined to. As long as it is in good condition, and as long as it is £580, not £580 plus customs duties etc. I can also see the 50-500mm being more flexible. The 100-300mm is obviously a more limited range, however the advantage is in the constant f/4, and in the image quality at all lengths and apertures. Personally I would rather own the 100-300mm, but for your trip I can see the 50-500mm might be more useful.

Yes, it's from the A series, otherwise known as KA mount. The aperture ring has the "A" which provides for open-aperture metering and auto modes on all bodies; it works in Program and the Priority modes on my K100d as well as all film bodies.

I just want to clear the space and see the lenses 'go to a good home'; making money off them is secondary so I didn't want to price anyone out. Plus with the selling prices on eBay often varying quite a bit, I honestly wouldn't know what price to set. I'm open to offers, so if you think a price sounds fair then most likely I will too... and it can't hurt to ask, right?

So here's what I'm selling...

Well, in K-mount...

2) Ricoh 50mm f/1.7... actually marked "Auto Sears MC". As Matt Denton notes on his classic camera site, Ricoh lenses and bodies were relabelled for Sears. Apparently people wanted their cameras to have the name of American department stores instead of proper camera companies... odd ... anyway it's a decent 50mm. Very good condition except for one very very thin and short scratch on the rear element. Hardly visible, about 2mm long, and has never shown up on any images either with film or digital. Lens has no "A" on aperture ring so equivalent to an M-series.

And now, M42 lenses...

1) Photax-Paragon 135mm f/2.8.

4) Prinzflex 135mm f/2.8.

5) Soligor 35mm f/2.8.

6) Helios 35mm f/2.8.

I know little about these M42 lenses and have not used them much, but they are all in good condition.

P.s. I will throw in a (Chinese copy) M42-to-K adapter free with the first M42 lens to go. And if anyone buys more than one lens I'll give away the genuine Pentax adapter instead.

All excellent advice above. A fast tele zoom with your budget isn't going to happen, unless perhaps you manage to find a good deal on a manual-focus lens.

Like others I can recommend the Tamron 70-300mm as a good budget tele zoom choice, perhaps the Sigma too although personally I feel it offers lower quality for more money... either way they are both decent lenses, but are unlikely to offer a huge improvement over what you already have. If you are after a really good or fast tele zoom, it might be best to wait and save a bit more.

On the other hand you can definitely get a macro tele prime within your budget. You may be able to find either the SMC-FA or SMC-DFA 100mm for within or slightly over your budget if you shop around. Personally I would look at the Tamron or Sigma offerings which will definitely come in under £300... either the Tamron 90mm or the Sigma 70mm or 105mm would be great choices and the choice really comes down to which focal length you prefer and which has the better look and feel for you (as always I suggest checking them out in a shop before buying if possible). For me it was the Tamron because I felt 90mm was a great length for either macro or portraits on both digital and film.

At the risk of causing a stampede... a certain Pentax-friendly independent shop popular among Pentaxians in the South-East has the 35mm f/2 in stock again... it's not cheap but maybe your only choice if you have to have the Pentax name instead of Samsung.

This is true... Samsung overprice the 35mm; and yet at one point they were letting the 50-200mm go for £50. Odd...
