Does anyone have a first hand comparison between these two lenses? Ignore the obvious please, i.e. the focal length; I am simply pondering if I might be happier with the Sigma over the Tamron I already own, as a walk around and convenience lens. Ever since getting an FA 43ltd I am a bit spoiled, and so I wonder if the Sigma offers a bit more punch in the range that the two share. Particularly edge to edge sharpness at wide open is quite relevant to me.

This problem is actually well known, and there has been A LOT of heated discussion over at the dpreview forums. It seems that some K-x show this weird behaviour where images taken between 1/80 and 1/125 can be blurred. To my knowledge, there has not been a final conclusion, but

- the most likely cause was seen by some as a combination of mirror slap and an inability of the SR system to compensate properly at these shutter speeds
- some people had their K-x repaired, and it apparently sorted the problem, even though it wasn't acknowledged by Pentax service what the problem was
- a number of people believe that it has to do with batteries, i.e. their quality and strength; some even thought that it was an issue of the battery contacts and that bending them slightly improved the problem
- It also seems to be relevant to have the latest firmware revision which provides better power management

If you have the time, it might be worth heading over to these forums and check a few of these discussions.

Wow, that's a great price. I'd hurry there in an instant if I lived closer to B'ham...

But if anyone is heading to the show and doesn't intend to buy any remaining stock for themselves, I'd be happy to pay the £399 for the lens, £50 extra fee for buying it for me plus the postage to London if they'd get one for me

Oh, cheers guys! I never figured - I should have RTFM

Kit lens that came with my K-x, bought beginning of January. Hardly ever used, just for some test shots for comparison, so it's in mint condition. I finally decided that for convenience shots the Tamron 18-250mm suits me better, and since I'm not much into telephoto I stick with my primes whenever I can anyway

Comes with the original caps, no hood as none is included originally. Also not boxed, as a kit lens it came in a compartment in the K-x box. but will of course be properly packed and wrapped.

I will consider reasonable offers on this one... well, when I say 'reasonable' I am thinking of around the £150 mark
