I'm afraid that there is nothing about Pentax in this article, but it's v.interesting nonetheless. Amazing the speed at which the agency teams get their images out to the world.

I (almost instinctively) go for the B&W, but the colour also has a lot going for it. Both are good, however, on repeated view it's the B&W for me - it's a simpler and clearer image to me.

Not a game changer for me, but it's nice to have. It was great a few weeks ago on a snowy day in the alps, I could take my time a pick the shots I wanted without having to worry about a bit of snow.

There are very few 'rubbish' products out there now, and all of the major brands produce cameras capable of producing good results.

I chose Pentax for a couple of reasons, partly legacy (I had one in the 70s & 80s), but mainly because it is just great in the hand and it feels so much better built than the competitors at the same price band.

Red Snapper RS283, used with a couple of different heads - not the lightest, but solid, stable and well made. VERY good value compared to some of the better known names.

I upgraded from a K-r to a K-5iiS a few months ago. I have found the controls of the 5iiS better for me that those of the K-r. I wouldn't hesitate - go for a K-5 variant.

I had an ME in the late 70s and I loved the feel of it and the build quality was superb, but in the mid 80s work (and other interests) took priority and I stopped taking photographs.

When I decided to get back into it, I had a look at Pentax because I had lenses that I knew would fit. The reviews were all positive about the IQ, but as soon as I picked one up - I knew, it just felt right. A few weeks later a friend brought a Nikon (in the same price range)and I couldn't believe the difference in feel - one felt cheap, plasticy and lightweight, the other felt well built, solid and quality. No prizes for guessing which was which.

I've had no cause to regret my decision, and because I don't need (or want) FF, or fast AF tracking, I can't see me switching.

I recently had a hard disk crash which resulted in me losing all my software, all my e-mails/contacts and quite a few data files, but fortunately my images are stored on another drive.

For most of the software I had the original media, so re-installing was not a problem. However, I got my copy of Silver Efex Pro some time ago as a download version, so I had no media to fall back on - don't ask about back-ups, I promise to be more vigilant in the future!

As a result, I contacted their helpline - they got back to me in a matter of minutes and could not have been more helpful. I now have it all re-installed and updated to the latest version.

It's an all to rare pleasure to be able to comment on a company for whom customer service is obviously not just a slogan, but what they actually deliver. No matter, what people’s views are of the pro & cons of their software, from my experience their customer service is exemplary.

I use it a lot - it tends to live on the camera. Image quality is really good for a lens of its type.
