Actually, this lens is quite a simple design and relatively easy to strip , without disturbing the optics too much.

What about firmware updates?

AFAIK, the AF is linked to colour temperature in the K5. Maybe Pentax made some adjustments in a firmware update? You can always verify the firmware in the EXIF between shots...

It's an interesting possibility that goes to show I better perform an AF adjustment again!

You could be onto something here Matt.

I purchased my K5 in November. It was a Christmas present, so the only use it got before then was general checking for function and lens setup.

In January after the latest firmware update, like Tim I noticed a lack of sharpness, so I repeated lens calibration, first with a 31Ltd and then later with several other lenses. In all cases the amount of adjustment needed decreased. Before the recalibration the lenses were in the -4 to -9 range , after 0 to -4.

This maybe down to settlement' as something similar did occur with the K10.

I don't have the this gun myself, but there are plenty of diffusers on eBay

Personally I use a piece of semi clear corrugated plastic packing, stuck on the front with clear tape, which seems to work well enough for my needs.
Alternatively, you could fashion something from a used milk container.

Give Johnsons a call, maybe send them a couple of pictures of the lens.
If you send it to them, they will inspect and give you a quote. If you decide not to go ahead with repair, the only charge is for return postage.

Someone in the shop pointed out that they liked the V1, but wished it came in more colours. I said that had it been made by Pentax it would be available in every colour under the sun, to which the sales assistant responded "Yeah, but if Pentax made it, it would be a piece of s**t". I had to call him up on this, I asked how he'd come to that conclusion. Funnily enough he had never shot a frame with a Pentax camera, he just didn't trust them as they weren't made by a big, reputable company.

30cm behind his head was a K-r twin lens kit...
I think the real question here is, what are Pentax doing to change this perception. Do Pentax or anyone else for that matter offer training days for retailors?

Thanks Matt, after quite a lot of practice, I do now get reasonably consistent test results. I find the hardest part of the process is setting the camera/lens at 45 degrees to the test chart.

I have not tried LR4 beta, is it not possible to import / use LR3 Pentax profiles?
