The one on the camera is from Germany via Amazon but apart from the fact that it saved my lcd I wouldn't recommend it. There were two in the pack and they were a fraction too long so the first attempt to fit ended up in a wasted protector as it wouldn't lie flat. I cut half a mil off the next one and it fitted ok. I've got others coming from eBay which include a top lcd protector as well.

My old K-r had a glass GGS protector on it but there's none available for the K3 yet.

Took myself down to the loch today to try and catch some wind and waves. I caught a bit more wind than I expected when it blew the tripod into the camera as I was walking along.

One of the first things I do with anything that has a screen like this is put a protector on it and I'm so glad I kept with tradition this time. I've only had the camera a week and I'd have been devastated if it had been on the bare glass.

Yes, it is a specialist site for Pentax - but it is not owned by Pentax or Ricoh,
You're right but it is owned by somebody else and what they say goes ultimately.

I think perhaps folk are losing sight of what this site is. It's a magazine dedicated to the Pentax (and now possibly Ricoh) brand. It's not a general photography discussion forum or a general camera site, there are many other places for that kind of discussion. We members have to accept it for what it is because it's value comes from it being dedicated to the brand as a repository of things Pentax; and stop trying to turn it into something it's not.

£14 for a Hoya seems rather cheap.

There are a lot of fakes out there and you do need to be careful especially on auction type sites.
I'd have to agree with this, Hoya in particular seem to be targeted by Asian garden shed manufaketories. If you buy one buy it from a reputable shop (like SRS) and you should be fine.

Maybe I did it without thinking but that's not what it says in the instruction information given (I saved the instructions at the time I downloaded it.)
Quote:

Updating Procedure
1. Provide a formatted SD memory card for the update software.
The download file is self-extracting. The following file is extracted.
•Fwdc220b.bin: This is the updated firmware.
Copy the above Firmware file [fwdc220b.bin] to the root directory in the SD card.
If your computer does not have a card slot, you can copy the firmware update file by inserting the SD card into your camera and then connecting the camera directly to your computer.
2. Insert the D-LI90 battery into the camera and confirm the battery is full by battery level indicator then turn the camera off.
3. Insert the update SD card (prepared in step 1) into the camera and close card cover.
4. Turn the camera power on while pressing the MENU button.
5. "Updates the camera firmware" appears in the LCD monitor.
Ver: 1.00 C1.01 will be displayed.
6. Press the four-way controller to select "Start" and press the "OK" button.
7. "NOW LOADING" appears on the LCD monitor and updating starts.
Please do not under any circumstances switch off the power before the update is completed.
8. When update is completed, the "COMPLETE" will be displayed at the left bottom of the LCD monitor, then turn the camera off.
9. Remove the update SD card from the camera.
*Confirm the version of firmware with above [How to check version].
I did it this way ^ At first the upgrade would not start because it didn't think there was enough battery power so charged it a bit and followed these instructions. I put the card in slot one pressed menu and switched on, the firmware upgrade started automatically and didn't take long to complete.

There are youtube videos of Pentax dslrs being soaked. A K5 and a K3 covered in dust and sand then rinsed off under the shower I seem to remember in one video. Not something I'd do to my equipment by choice mind you...

I might be wrong but will Tapatalk not work on any web forum once you tell it to? It's a while since I used it. Or did you mean a customised version?
