Thread revival time!

After a few false starts and a very long wait for Pentax to send a new front element my lens is repaired (it's like new!) I want to thank Alan Marlow for the work done and the very friendly, professional attitude - top bloke.
From me sending the lens to getting it back in my hands it was just eight days.

I find viewing images on a white background more difficult, they can be overwhelmed by it, particularly if there's loads of white surrounding.

If content is what a site is about then you should set up the site to make viewing the content easier? It may be just a personal thing but I've never been fond of white backgrounds on any site. The BBC did something similar when they redesigned their news site a while ago and the most complaints made were about too much empty white. They partly solved it by filling the screen more with the text and images.

I also think the white is too bright and there's too much of it, on a 24" screen it's blinding. I'm sure there are others who like it though so would it be possible to have a choice of background colour? my own preference would be 18% grey or maybe a bit lighter and make the text areas auto size to fit the screen?

ACMAXX are very good and the ebay shop delivers very quickly.

The NewPro cleaner arrived very quickly but didn't make any improvement, highlighted the problem bits more though!

Got a completely unhelpful generic reply from JPS saying send it in and we'll check but it will cost you £24 if you refuse the repair. A nice reply from Alan Marlow, he's on holiday but will get me a price as soon as he gets back. I think I know who'll be getting the work based on that.

Of course it was in my bag not on the lens. Actually it's the second time I've tipped my camera over on that beach, I should learn.

Thanks for the link Algernon, I've ordered some of that, even if it doesn't work in this case it's useful to have.

The scratch on the left is the worst one, more of a chip out of the glass. Many of the others are not really more than marks on the coating.

Lots of little scratches John, I'll clean it up and post a pic in a while. Basically the tripod tipped over and it fell face down onto a stone beach. It's still usable but there are definite artefacts visible on images.

I've managed to scratch the front element of my DA* 300mm I've emailed JPS and am awaiting a reply but are there any other service centres that I can get a quote from?
