I'll admit that previously whilst owning the K10D & then the K20D I've always been quite keen on seeing what the next generation would bring, now owning the K5 has changed this as I really can't think of a single reason I'd upgrade it at the moment, it ticks all the boxes for my needs. As Bill says though maybe in a couple of years time when prices drop but I certainly have no current urgency

Have to agree...it doesn't make sense to me buying a high quality "branded" camera with the intention of taking good quality photos and then increase the risk of losing any you've taken by storing them on unknown media, which saves you about £6

Each to their own though

Having had firstly Cokin, then Hitech & now Lee I can honestly say Lee are worth it, even though they do seem rather expensive.

Hard NDgrads should be fine in almost all situations, on cropped sensor cameras the graduation line isn't nearly as obvious as you might think, it's only really that evident at UWA focal lengths (12mm etc) & even then not too bad..I've never found the need to use my Soft NDgrad regardless of whether it's coastal shots with a defined horizon or mountainous shots.

It's probably best worth trying the cheaper ones first though...one other advantage of the Lee system worth knowing though is that its not nearly as cumbersome to use as the Cokin/Hitech so you're probably more likely to use it

I can't think of a single negative to say about the K5, meets all my requirements and more...in fact the statement about less detail recovery than the K20D astounds me, this is by far one of the greatest improvements over the previous models - it's quite easy to recover at least -4ev, blows my previous K20D out of the water as it does with image detail too.

Ref resizing there are differing opinions vs the "one shot" or stepped approach...I read quite recently (unfortunately can't remember where) that the small step approach using 10% is still best so have a Photoshop action for this - having said this I didn't really have any issue with bicubic smoother.

I find the best way to ensure you get back what you intended is to crop/resize your image to exactly the print size you require, do all editing yourself and then make sure the printer doesn't do anything to your file other than print it.

Most problems people seem to have relate to incorrect colorspace (normally they've used ARGB instead of SRGB)and failing to make sure they sized their image correctly

Thanks for the info Simon..Have you ever come across any of the cards, bearing your images. For me its not about money. (I was offered £100 each.) Just a fantastic ego boost..

Apparently they are on sale in James Pringle/Edinburgh Wool shops and some National Trust properties but having not really visited many of these I've never seen them on sale, the card company sent me several of each so I have those tucked away in a drawer.

There's nothing wrong with getting a buzz from selling your photos, I still do, but it doesn't really make sense in giving them away free to commercial organisations who are definitely intending profiting from your efforts, although I have made exceptions for a couple of charities

Well done, always nice to find others appreciate your photos too.

The first advice would be don't give them your photos for nothing, they're a commercial organisation who will be making profit from them so why shouldn't you!!

I currently have 4 photos on greetings cards, the terms differ from company to company, I get paid a % of sales. They sent a detailed contract for me to sign so everything was clear, as I guess it is in your case.

Definitely insist on photo credit, they shouldn't have a problem with this, but you'll probably find the credit will be limited to your name on the back of the card - good enough for me to be honest.

If they are asking for copyright of the images then prices should be higher than just "usage" as they have the option to use it for anything they deem fit. It's usually best to try and retain copyright but it can depened on how unique the images are or personal to you.
