Hi & welcome,

I'm just along the road in Mold, an Autumn meet sounds interesting - haven't been on one yet!!

Thanks

Mayde it's better to sign the photo on the frame (backside the frame) or on the backside of the print in such a way that it does not show through the print.
My thoughts are that the reason for signing it is to add that individual touch, if customers can't see your signature when on display then there's little point in adding one....sign the front but to be on the safe side maybe make it quite discreet

I always personally sign all my mounted/framed prints on the mount itself rather than on the actual print, personally I prefer this rather than signing the actual photograph

Thanks for the info Gwyn, I guess the Mestos plate is pretty much universal?

so use it. put it on, leave your zoom at home and use it..for a week or two... then examine your results and decide if you need or want another prime to go with it.. it will be easier to decide what to buy after you've tried using the 35 seriously... longer/shorter foal length, faster vs macro.. once you look at what you can do with the one you got, you'll know where to start looking for the next one..
I did exactly that when I first bought it Don but found it too limiting for landscapes, most of my shots are between 17-24mm, hence trying out the 15mm and now having just given some thought to the 21mm. I was probably too subtle in my original post so..I'm basically saying that the wider Pentax primes just don't seem significantly, if at all, better than the equivalent zooms - for my usage anyway

Simon, you'll find a DA70mm would compress perspective in the same way - it's a focal length thing, not a zoom vs prime thing. I do actually wonder if you'd be happier with a longer prime, as I think those longer, faster ones do offer more of a benefit over a zoom, in terms of nice OOF rendering etc.
Yes, I didn't explain my point well I suppose and thinking about it, it's not really much of one....I was thinking more about the framing choice that a zoom gives you from the same viewpoint and therefore the choice between wide or compressed (zoom)..but you can obvioualy do that with 2 primes

I admit to not really considering the longer primes, I've mainly being trying to convince myself I need a 15 or 21 but neither seem to quite good enough to get me to replace/supplement my DA17-70/DA 12-24. The only prime I have now is the FA35mm F2 which I like but rarely use

Thanks

Interesting debate as usual, my thoughts...

I think the optical quality advantange that primes supposedly offer over zoom lenses is becoming less and less significant. It seems most of the Pentax DA primes are matched by at least one of the DA zooms when it comes to sharpness at most focal lengths with perhaps the exception of wide open although having owned the DA15mm briefly it did offer more impressive contrast/colour, I couldn't live with it's extremely soft corners though.

The main advantage I feel that primes now offer is one of size, easily dropped in a pocket etc with perhaps the likelhood that you're more likely to have it with you.

An advantage of zooms not often mentioned, which I find really useful, is their ability to compress perspective between objects...I'm suprised how often this improves landscape photographs

One of my favourite places on Anglesey, the coastal path heading to Bull Bay is stunning...

On the photo, obviously the weather at the moment isn't helping much...I can see your thinking including the bushes to create a natural frame but unfortunately for me I think they are a little too distracting

Thanks for the replies everyone which reach the conclusions that I initially thought, which in a way is a little disappointing although perhaps it's just a reflection of how good modern zoom lenses have become.

A 645D that's food for thought, unfortunately way above my budget.

I think I'll await the new Pentax lens releases and see if anything interesting comes along
