like or hate K-5?

the compliments for K-5 are all over the internet. i have been owning one of this for a couple of months and sold my K20D about a month after having my K-5. some my comments on K-5( you may disagree)

The improvement on focusing is massive; well control noise on high ISO, ISO3200 is totally usable.

However,

the image quality is not as good as K20D. i shoot raw nearly 100%, K20D maybe not good at ISO, but produce very smooth color transition, captures more details, great potential in raw. i think the sensor of K20d has deeper color depth, which has not been tested by any authority. when i process the K20d raw, i could recover the details about 2 EV, but it's probably 1 EV for K-5. i have a strong suspicion that the raw file of K-5 has been heavily processed, just like a pre-JPEG, very little potential for post-process.

Has anyone got similar experience?

Couldn't disagree more.

If you can only recover 1 stop from your K-5 then it must be faulty. I've been able to recover up to 5 stops from all my K-5s, and I've seen many other examples of the same. In fact the great dynamic range of the K-5 is one of the things peeps were gushing about when it arrived on the scene

Either you had the best K20 ever made or have the worst K5 ever made

Great camera though it was - Colour depth and detail are far superior om my K5 than my K20 ever produced
No matter how many lenses I have owned - I have always needed just one more

After a thorough assessment I can conclude.......

...the K20D has a better SD Card door, the K5 has better everything else

I forgotten about the card door comparison. yes I remember the K20D's door was better, but the K-5 doors have never bothered me for at least a year

It doesn't bother me either - but it was better on the K20D.

I agree that the card door and indeed the way the card is held in the camera is better on the K20D over the K-5. Even getting the card out of the camera on the K-5 can be fiddly.

On the other points, the K-5 is better, I can get so much more out of the RAW files of the K-5 over the K20D.

The K-5 is a wonderful beast.

I can't think of a single negative to say about the K5, meets all my requirements and more...in fact the statement about less detail recovery than the K20D astounds me, this is by far one of the greatest improvements over the previous models - it's quite easy to recover at least -4ev, blows my previous K20D out of the water as it does with image detail too.

I like the K5. Mine was a gift. It's the best Pentax DSLR to date.

I miss the shake reduction on/off switch on the K20. That's all.
