Unbranded memory card

hi all
going out today to buy a new memory card
iv already got a 8gig class 4
but after reading some of the comments i think class 10 is more suited
what i want to know is does it matter if i get a non branded card
maplins have a unbranded 8gig class 10 for £7.99
if i was to go for a well known name i probably be paying double
so is cheap the better deal in the long run ?

Delivery takes a few days if you opt for free postage, but you can get them more quickly for a small stipend.

To answer the original question. And I know many here will disagree, but! I've never had a problem with cheap unbranded cards failing in any way other than the casing coming apart from handling, never had one lose data. So I'd say yeah you'll be ok, the old adage you get what you pay for is also inforce

Have to agree...it doesn't make sense to me buying a high quality "branded" camera with the intention of taking good quality photos and then increase the risk of losing any you've taken by storing them on unknown media, which saves you about £6

Does anyone know who makes Pentax branded batteries?

Judging by the extreme similarity of my Energiser to its' Pentax equivalent, I would say they both come from that big battery factory in China

Jo public almost certainly doesn't but there will be a paper trail held by Pentax, probably right down to the manufacturer of the dies that moulded the plastic.

Whilst the likes of Amazon are selling Sandisk etc at reasonable prices I wouldn't use unbranded (even if they were free) for anything other than experimentation. And I'm always looking to save money, even by making things myself.

That's right all manufactures operate proper QA
and can recall any defective parts from outside
manufacturers as Nikon recently did with batteries.

Unbranded SD cards could well be something that
a manufacturer threw into an e-bin for recycling
because they failed in QA tests and some thief
has sold them on.

Even having a Name on the card isn't always
a guarantee that the quality is up to scratch.

Of course pentax knows where they come from ( or should do ), but the same manufacturers will make for other suppliers, perhaps even those with no brand name on them.

When I was involved in selling, in the field concerened I was well aware of what was made by whom, and what items cost at the various stages in their pathway to the customer.

There were different sorts of customer of course. Some wanted the lowest price, regardless of the brand name, so that meant "own brand" products. These were made for various companies by a few manufacturers who specialised in that. These manufacturers could sometimes make some items for the main names, but these were generally quite different in specification.

At the other end, there were those that wanted the very best and they bought the recognised brand leaders. They may well have wanted these items at the best possible price, but the price itself was not the main objective. Reliability, quality, confidence and the pleasure of using the best was more to the point.

Now these higher priced products were most definitely not the same as the own brand ranges. They performed better and gave a higher degree of satisfaction to those who could tell the difference.

The point I'm making is that we can make no assumptions, although it's unlikely that those at the extremes of the argument for or against will be able to understand each other's point of view. We do what suits us in the end, and many options are available.
