I've just been contacted regarding the use of my images in a national calendar and I'm trying to figure out some prices..

the calendar is 12 month usage whilst the postcard are 3yrs

As it's the first time I've considerd this I'd appreciate some guidance, if privacy is preferred then please feel free to drop me a PM or email me directly

thanks for any assistance

I always use SR with my monopod and am convinced that it makes a noticeable difference - as still as you may think you are holding the monopod it's inevitable some movement will occur and the SR helps to deal with this

On the Sigma 70-300, I owned one for a while but found that generally images were soft above 240mm, not sure if this is your issue ?

I entered the competition last year & this - shorlisted last year but no luck this time around...

The shot of the fell runners is brilliant - definitely a few too many over-processed HDR ones for my taste although it seems the higher profile comps are going for these type of shots recently

Try DSCL for prints on their Lustre paper, download their profile 1st - never had a single issue with them & way cheaper than you'll manage printing at home..

Until recently I printed my own A4 but adding up the costs of paper and ink it's just far cheaper to use DSCL

It's difficult to describe, but the right hand trees in particular look rather over sharpened. This gives it an odd look on my monitor, not dissimilar to overdone HDR.

The polariser may have been a contributary factor, compounded by the processing.

Personally I'd have shot this without the polariser and limited the PP work to levels and no more than 50% sharpening in Unsharp Mask. It's all relative, but the process you describe is much more than the minimalist approach I would take.

What we don't know is how much the lack of resolution on screen is affecting this, and it may well be that when printed it will look entirely different.
Thanks John - very helpful, I'll have a look at the original again

Thanks for the feedback....

out of interest what looks overdone ?

It was taken with a polariser & PP is limited to a slight lift in shadows using "fill light" in ACR and then some "local contrast enhancement" + final sharpening in Photoshop - quite minimal PP really

I went out early Friday morning to photograph the castle at Llangollen but the lighting wasn't what I was hoping - I took this shot whilst there anyway, does it work for you?

thanks

Went for a hike yesterday and passed Llyn Crafnant on the way, couldn't resist a photo of the fantastic autumn reflections

I used it on the GX10 (K10D) & found it pretty soft above around 140mm, wasn't really happy with it so bought the Pentax 55-300 which is in a different league altogether - good contrast/colour & very sharp at 300mm, unfortunately it also costs significantly more than the Pentax

If you want a cheaper option then its Tamron vs Sigma, both are compromised - Tamron has bad CA, although seem to vary copy to copy, the Sigma as already mentioned can be pretty soft at the long end

BTW - this isn't just speculation, I've owned all three
