Thanks for the suggestions...can't believe I missed the lean on the castle (now corrected).

with the composition I have several other shots, some of which have tighter framing on the castle, so for now I'm resisting too much cropping on this one until I can compare with the others - I'll post one when they've been processed

Stunning sunset over Conwy tonight - the snow-capped hills & frozen river conwy hopefully add something a little different to this shot too. This is the first of sevral I have left to process. All C&C appreciated

Set off early down to Snowdonia today to catch a few shots of the recent snow falls, unfortunately the decent weather lasted about 45 minutes so only managed a couple of shots.

The 1st one is a shot I've tried a few times but it's never really worked, be interested to see if you think it does this time?

thanks

Hi Simon - I came to the same conclusion as you with the Sigma and it lives with another forum member now! I bought a 16-45 which goes wide enough for me, but can see the attraction of the 12-24. Another option might be to buy the 15mm DA Ltd to stick in your pocket for the odd occasion when 17mm is not wide enough?
Hi Jon,

Pity it didn't meet your needs either. I have considered the prime option but having read a few reviews the DA 12-24 seems to be at least of equal quality to the 14/15mm options, with the added flexibility.

One reason I'm considering the 12-24 is that whilst I'm very pleased with the DA 17-70 it does show some distortion around 17mm, the DA 12-24 I believe is distortion free in the 15-20mm range which sounds quite appealing

thanks

Hope everyone is having a good Christmas !!

I'm currently re-considering UWA lens options although being honest I'm not 100% sure if I need one. The reason I say this is that I previously owned the Sigma 10-20 and never found it quite to my taste, distortion was a bit too heavy and I often felt that UWA just left landscapes feeling a little lost/distant (hope that makes sense).

I currently use the DA 17-70 most of the time but I'm thinking again about adding the option of UWA but with a DA 12-24. Perhaps the range would be more suitable for my needs than the 10-20 and the 12-24 should exhbit much less distortion than the DA 17-70 in the 17mm focal range.

Although it's obviously up to me to make up my own mind I'd appreciate any thoughts on this from others into landscape photography - it's not really about the qualities of the 12-24/10-20 etc, more about the usefulness of UWA lenses for landscapes

thanks

I used to own the Epson R220, killed it using compatibles, Jettec which I think are the best non OEM) - in hindsight the prints were never as good as the original ink/paper either.

I now have the Canon MP540 and always use original ink - I save some cash by using Ilford paper instead of Canon, this way I get the best quality prints & hopefully the printer should last

Pity that the end of the pier was cut off, it looks like you needed a bit wider FOV!

I think I'll agree that it was better to keep the whole building instead.

Nice lighting on the top of cliff face, good light at this time of the year in the UK has a rather fleeting nature.
Sorry about my first post (I came back to late to edit it!), but for some reason the rhs of the photo was cropped off.

So please ignore my irrelevant comments!
Funny that. Someone commented that the RHS of my tree pic was 'clipped' when it wasn't. Is this an undocumented feature of the our beloved website:

I find that the banners/adverts on the R/H side often overlap the images/threads posted and "spoil" the forum, I've mentioned it before but thought it was somehow limited to my PC?

I use Noise Ninja occasionally and have always found it pretty good, I always reduce the settings though as it's usually a bit heavy handed at default.

Most of the time I find that noise reduction in ACR is very effective and NN isn't required
