I must admit that having visited the PPG I've been left a little confused as to what the fuss is all about. Whilst there are some excellent shots posted I've seen similiar quality images around Flickr etc.

Does having images on PPG actually provide any valuable kudos etc. I'd be interested to hear peoples thoughts?

thanks

It's a debate that rages on photography forums frequently...I'd agree that the "balance of power" lies with the photographer but as already mentioned some features of pro equipment are essential for certain requirements so there's no real definitive answer

Haven't posted for a while as landscape photo opportunities have been few & far between recently so I took the camera along to Llandudno whilst doing a bit of Christmas shopping...here's the only shot I managed before the sun disappeared

I agree, the DA 17-70 is excellent and as you say the only downside is the barrel distortion (more than my previous Sigma 17-70).

what sets it apart for the also excellent Sigma 17-70 is colour rendition/contrast - the Pentax just produces nicer looking images

DSCL get my vote - excellent quality & good pricing

On the R200 I used to own one and always found it produced very good results...are you using a calibrated monitor & the correct printer driver/profiles/ink/paper ?

I agree with your comments completely...having owned the Tamron/Sigma offerings previously the Pentax was well worth spending the extra money for.

Stefans suggestion is a good one..I recently won a competition and was contacted by a publisher as a result - I hope to have some good news shortly

The problem with online sales is that there are so many websites doing the same thing - high page ranking is essential to generate any traffic to your site and even when you manage that converting visitors into customers isn't easy either

If you want to promote your photography then local galleries/craft centres are well worth a try

if a zoom is your choice then the cheapest & sharpest at 300m is the Tamron - unfortunately the copy I owned did suffer quite bad CA

I found the Sigma too soft above 240mm....

I now own the Pentax 55-300 & it's the best "consumer" zoom choice, unfortunately also the most expensive by some margin

The Dell 2209WA 22" seems to offer excellent value. Unusually at this price it has an IPS panel, and seems to be well thought of among photo enthusiasts. I would like to say what it's like from personal experience, but I'm currently having difficulty sourcing one here in Sri Lanka (though it is available in India and Malaysia - and presumably Europe & N. America).

BTW it needs to be the 2209 with the WA suffix, not the 2209s with prefixes (sod's law determines that these ones are available all over Colombo:roll.
I can happily speak from experience as I bought the 2209WA about 6 months ago - certainly gets my "highly recommended" !!

Thanks for the reply..I appreciate it's very difficult to provide guidance on this...

I've looked on Alamy for the same useage etc which gives me some idea - the only thing is Alamy images are "stock" images so is this a reasonable comparison - I'd like to think my images are a little better than stock ones and if so perhaps worth slightly more, maybe this is irrelevant ?
