Well now I'll still be happy with my K20D, at 61, it's problably the last camera I shall ever need or buy.

But there could possibly be 2 exceptions.

1.If Carlsberg can make " probably the finest camera in the world".

2.If the Hoya Pentax corporation, market the K20D TM.(with built in tea maker).

Don't worry be happy,

Can anyone recommend 'security' software for a PC that actually works :

My home PC was attacked by some 'malware' which McAfee happily allowed in to change various registry settings, without coming up with any alerts.

A McAfee scan indicates the machine to be 'clean' whereas other spyware type programmes that I ran from a disk, indicate a major infection.

I cannot now access the internet, so this is being typed at work.
I use AVG Free version 8.0 it comes complete with it's own anti Spyware program built in and I have had no problems.

DO Not Use Norton!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to order the Freecom 500gb external drive for the same reason.

I've used three 80gb Freecoms, and despite containing disks made by different manufacturers they've all been pretty solid - though of course that's no guarantee for the 500gb model.

The reviews -

are fairly comforting.
Why not

Hi all,

I'm looking to buy an external hard drive for my pics, as the computer is getting full and feels like its struggling.

I'm looking at about a 500gb capacity.

Can anyone recommend a good one?

Have seen western digital my-book
Freecom
Seagate freeagent

Graham
Why not fit a Western Digital Raptor Drive, they are the fastest drives on the market at 10,000 RPM, data transfer is awesome.

I use an 80 Gig Raptor for the operating system,a Seagate Barracuda 200 Gig partioned, and an 80 Gig Seagate Barracuda in a removable ICY Box caddy for my music and pictures,

I don't advise buying anything from Freecom, I've had problems with their components inthe past!

Thanks Andy, amazing what can be done - a 25% reduction in file size seems huge. I wonder if it is truly lossless, or just not too noticable. Just about impossible to try out, but if you could compare identically composed images from the D and DS, would there be a slight reduction in quality due to the compression? (D owners nod knowingly )

But then, better in-camera processing probably more than makes up for that if there is. (D owners look a little less smug )

Hello Dan,
I'm currently using a 16 Gig Dane Elec SDHC card in my K20D, and it all appears to be fine.

Dane Elec is good memory, as it runs my pc(2Gig DDR 400 Ram).

As there is an issue with the old card readers not having the capacity to read bigger than 2Gig, I had to purchase a new card reader from Maplin.
I suggest that anyone wanting a cheap SDHC card, to look at the
7 day shop as it is tax free. My card cost me £17.75 in total icl' shipping.
Hi Dan,
I forgot to mention my K20D registers 418 shots with this card!

No not Sydney,

Darwin is a much better bet!

From there you can get to Kakadu National Park, and Arnemland National Park.

NT Australia is the place to be, Australia in the raw, Magnificent Scenery, lively, wonderful people, and the added bonus is you get to eat Barramundi and the finest OZ steaks.

Pack your cameras, pack you Akubras, and go!

Yes I suppose so, but although my bird table gets a wipe the lime still takes off the Ronseal.

I think my idea will work, and the armchair with a pint of Broadside, washing up in machine, does it for me

K20D SMC DA 18-55mm, SMC DA 55-300mm on way.

Many thanks to all who answered, it has certainly helped "The Little Grey Cells".

Oh for the summer again to get away from the square monster, and all the Poirot repeats, I am clearly watching too much box

I haven't seem a dumb question here today, so I must be slipping.

Lots of you folk speak of sharpness and ISO grain etc. in terms of "It's good up to A3" or something similar.

I assume (always dangerous) that has to do with enlargement sizes (paper?).

Being a complete Canadian amature, I get my prints at the pharmacey, and can only relate to 4x6, 5x7, 8x10 inch sizes. I've never had the opportunity to splurge for 16x20.

Is there a table I can be referred to (gently, please) which compares "A" sizes to something by something?

How's that for "New"?
Hello Mac,

I've always felt that my Epson Stylus Photo R360 printer does a sterling job in printing out my photos.
If you want larger than A4 which is standard size paper for letters and such like you will pay through the nose, in the rare instance that you would want a blown up picture, then the labs are quite reasonable.

OMG! that brings back such sweet memories Lilly.
For a year and a half in the 80s I went out with the girl who's parents owned the Headland hotel up there on top of the cliff in shot one. We had the run of the place and our favourite room to wake up in was room 14! - astonishing views over the sea and sweet, endless mornings. ahh... those were the days.
We were at the art college, I had a Yashica and she had a Pentax with a wide angle lens (oh how I coveted that!) and she was much more talented anyway
Hey ho... back to work Mark...
And she had a Pentax, was it not "Love me love the Pentax"

Maybe Lilly can answer this?

When one reaches the stage of compiling a fair portfolio of pictures, how does one go about registering a copyright?

Not that I am anywhere near achieving this as of yet, but the "Little Grey Cells", have been pondering over this.
