I'm afraid your observation is correct. However, for bulb exposures you would need a tripod and a cable release anyway to avoid camera shake, and the cable releases can normally be locked to keep the shutter open.

Funnily enough I took some photos yesterday and one of them showed the problem again.
And yes, Steve, I only noticed when adjusting the CA in SilkyPix and therefore looking at 400% size. It's easily corrected in SilkyPix but it shouldn't be there to start with...
And no, I wouldn't swap my K20D either. (I would, though, swap the fiddly lens cap of the DA* 16-50 for one that is easily removable even with sweaty fingers and that wouldn't fall off 9 out of 10 times when I get my camera out of the bag...)

PEF has the advantage of taking up less space on your memory card, and being quicker to download, and I think being more compatible with the Pentax browser program if ever you want to use that.
PEF can be converted to losslessly-compressed DNG any time with Adobe DNG converter (free). I don't know about the K20D ones, but for K10D at least, these type of DNG files are even smaller than PEFs.
Thanks to Mattmatic, for sending me the link, he's a very helpful guy as always on this forum.

My daughters P30T has "frozen" with the mirror stuck in the up position. Bearing in mind all the warnings of dire consequences of pulling the mirror back down by hand I have resisted the temptation to give it a push. I have tried exchanging lenses, taking the lens off altogether, removing the battery (which is a fairly new lithium 3V type) and leaving it to "rest". Nothing seems to work. I'm presuming that activating the shutter initiates a sequence of events; stop down the aperture, lift the mirror, open the shutter, close the shutter, drop the mirror, and then wait for the wind on to reset the shutter ready for the next shot. Presumably something has halted the mechanical sequence at the shutter close point and is either waiting for the next trigger or .... what? I'm going to get a new battery tomorrow but would appreciate any other suggestions.
The bad news is the cost of getting the camera to Pentax, and getting it repaired far outweighs what the camera is worth!
As film cameras are now not worth a carrot, I feel you'd be wasting good money trying to get it repaired!
My solution was to go DSLR, I purchased a K20D DA 18-55mm II and the DA 55-300mm lens.
Good luck ,
Peter.

After about a year I think its about time I said hello. My name Dave and I have a K10d with the 18-50 kit lens and some other bits. I'm tempted to join in with the forum topics and post a photo or two.
Welcome to our forum
Peter.

I received a voucher in the form of a post card for registering my K20D on line. I take it that it is the same as what Roscoe is talking about.
You get £7 off when you spend between £70 to £149
£15 off when you spend between £150 to £349,
£35 off when you spend over £350
And you have to use it at the same pro centre that you purchacsd your camera from.

The voucher is sent out by Pentax through the post, it's not from the UK, I believe from Belgium or the Netherlands.
It's to be reedemed against various purchases at the "Pro dealer" that you purchased your camera and lens from.
It's values depend on what you purchase, obviously the more expensive the item the voucher values rise pro rata.
The K20D is not sold in kit form, the camera body is in a box and the lens is in a box, they are not combined together as a kit!
You need to purchase a camera and a lens to qualify for the £100 cashback!
For further details phone Pentax and ask for Andrew Mellor!
thanks for the extra info about the voucher Seems like pentax are supporting their pro centres ?
I'm a bit puzzled by the 'not sold in kit form' comment though, since the cashback form says "K20D Camera and Lens Kit £100", but maybe we're just being picky on terminology !
A quick call to Park Cameras, will confirm what I've posted, like you I found it all rather confusing, and only found out upon purchase of my K20D!

I have just upgraded from a K10D to the K20D, but my mac is unable to open the PEF or DNG raw files produced by the K20D. The Jpegs work fine.
On clicking on a raw file the following message is displayed "Couldn’t open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize." I have also tried to open them with live quartz and iPhoto but they cannot read the files either.
Even the pentax software cannot open the PEF files, I just get a grey screen!
I have also used the remote assistance capture software and still no joy.
Does anybody know why this might be?
The RAW files from my K10D still work.
The images taken on the K20D can be viewed on the cameras LCD.
Thank you
I could not open any files using Lightroom 1.4, I fixed the problem by changing the camera's settings.Change from PEF to DNG in rec Mode, and then set colour space to AdobeRGB.
A lot of software does not recognise PEF, and DNG, was devised by Adobe, systems so having gained that info from the "Magic Lantern Guide", I changed camera settings
It worked for me try it
