Well Stefan, it's what the camera manufacturers recommend.
Having said that I've seen people doing all sorts of things that could cause problems, such as removing cards without switching off the camera, and they have got away with it.
It's not a good principle though, and it would be foolish if the images on the card were for a professional job. "I thought it would be OK," is not a viable excuse for not coming up with the goods.
People do have problems with corrupted cards and it makes one wonder why - could it be sometimes due to poor housekeeping?
I often delete all images/folders on my SDHC card whilst in my notebook, and my K20D reads it OK and displays "no images".
Once formatted in the camera a card should cause no problems, and can be used without any problems, until such time as it will eventually have to be replaced.
Is there a recognised life span for cards?
Regards,
Peter.

Given that our second goal should have been allowed, and now even FIFA are admitting that with new technology, it would have proved the goal was
legitimate, our team was a waste of space.
Wayne Rooney should be ashamed of himself, I've seen better football at a schoolboys international.
And to think I will be(God Willing)67 before the next World Cup!
I'd rather go fishing!

It runs Windows 7 no probs, updates on shut down, installs them on start up.
AVG is running fine, light room runs fine, photoshop runs fine.
Yes I used to get fed up with update issues with XP Pro, but since I'm using Windows 7, I have no complaints.
BTW, I'm running 64 bit progs.
When I get around to a rebuild(new power supply), I'm seriously thinking of formatting my Raptor, and my other SATA HDD's, and going for Windows 7 on both my notebook and my desktop PC.
It is a far better and much more stable O/S!
Kindest regards,
Peter.

It does astound me that, bearing in mind we're in a recession, and no-one's supposed to have any money, and things are tight etc., gadgets like this, which for the vast majority are just going to be a device to display photos, look at websites and check emails, even if the capabilities are far greater, still sell in the shed-load.
I'd buy one if I had a big stash of money sitting around and nothing else to spend it on, but I can think of a thousand other things that several hundred pounds would get me, and which would bring far greater joy.
But that's our consumerist society, wholly unsustainable and liable to monumentally backfire at some point in the next couple of decades, but at least people will be able to vlog about it when it does.
Dan
Just got back from Corfu.
Stayed in villa in Kalami, overlooking the bay.
Recession what recession, you ought to see the yachts, and motor yachts that came into and moored up in the bay!
I am talking millions of pounds worth of Spanish, German, English, Greek, etc.
Me I can't afford a rubber ring, or a K7.
Oh to join the idle rich eh Dan?
Kindest regards,
Peter

Well one of the hottest days of the year so far and was rushing to get to this event, a charity cancer relief race. Got there and got the cam out, had the sigma 70-200 f2.8 on just put on lens hood and swung it on shoulder only missed. fell to ground hard sun baked mud. Hit the ground lens hood first, then body. Picked it up and placed it gingerly to my eye. And there in the viewfinder was three black horizontal bands !!By now I was really sweating, OK I thought lets get somewhere quieter and see whats wrong. Sat under a shady tree, turned back on looked through viewfinder and same issue. Took a shot and it seemed fine on screen. Removed lens to see if I could see what problem was, and the focus screen and frame had came down, tried pushing back into place but it just kept dropping back down. Anyway after much fiddleing with it, it did go back into place and everything seems fine now. The lens hood on the sigma saved the day I think, you could see clearly where it had impacted with the dry mud, needed a good clean when I got in. Not a mark on the cam and works flawlessly. Good old tough Pentax.
You are sooooooooo lucky
My MZ7 just stopped working with a defunct shutter.(never dropped or banged about, and absolutely not a mark on it.
My K20D has replaced it, and it's good to know that they are one tough kookie!
Kindest regards,
Peter.

Something on the lunchtime news made me laugh like a drain, today.
It perfectly demonstrates the difference between us British and Australians.
Witney Houston's comback world tour is turning into a bit of a disaster for the old girl. - She just can't sing anymore, after years of sticking that white powder up her hooter. Anyway, they showed footage of the concert, with her sounding like a stabbed cat, and then interviewed people outside, about the performance. Some said it was rubbish and some said it was great. The thing is though, nobody minded that much.
During the Australian part of the tour, the audience demanded their money back!
That's what I love about Aussies. - We applaud politely, and say "That was lovely, dear", and walk away. - Aussies tell it like it is, and get a refund.
Good old Ockers.
