Best to use the Pentax sensor cleaning kit. Like you I was quite apprehensive but follow the instructions and it will be fine. Who wants to do spot removal on every exposure when this will sort it?

I especially like the first one with the orange in the reflection and the lovely rich blue water, a very amenable subject!

Sigma 50-500mm? In stock at SRS Microsystems new for £849 or otherwise you are looking at secondhand options. The Sigma 150-500mm is no longer produced but should be inexpensive if you can get one, it is an excellent lens.

So what? Not gone through the list in detail but it looks as if the K1 already had most of these where relevant to a DSLR straight out the box, don't know about other bodies. This is just catching up, not leading the field.

Excellent, well done for braving the cold! Were these taken in a dark sky area?

How much does a typical DSLR mirror weigh, stu62??
K50 is around 560kg, KP around 700kg, a typical Fuji around 500kg. All with battery & card.

Thought you had been a bit quiet recently Nigel! Excellent as always, have you thought of publishing? I remember I promised a photo of the cable attachment and haven't got around to it but I will.

Baffled by the omission of the wireless trigger option in the K70 pop-up flash, I have it on the K50 and to me is the best reason for the pop-up flash. Do you think Pentax is exploring a radio trigger option instead?

Fair enough. I'd add to that the thought that with big, heavy lenses, we really should be holding the lens, not the camera. Holding a huge telephoto by gripping the camera can put quite a strain on the mount.
Further to that I attach a Peak strap with one end attached to the lens foot and the other to the camera body when carrying a large telephoto attached; simple with the click-in connections.

I think the posts are gettting muddled between the on-camera grip and the bolt-on accessory. I haven't yet convinced myself I need the latter as an extra battery in the bag is much lighter and it's no big deal to turn the camera for portrait mode. Studio work is another matter.

There are probably two main driving forces for including a grip. One was the space for the motor that drives the film transport, something that is not needed with a manual film advance. The other is, as mentioned, the space for a large capacity battery. The incidental thing is that some users like larger grips.
Those are the technical reasons, the ergonomic one is that the heavier the camera body and lens the more grip you need.
