I was at Thirlmere a couple of weeks ago on a walking break with my son. Perfect sunny weather, but not great for the moody landscape photos I was hoping for! The last morning saw low clouds and mist swirling around but it was not until we were halfway back down the M6 that I realised this would have been perfect for Castlerigg stone circle, and that raises the dilemma I am sure I am not alone in facing: fitting photography around a family trip is very difficult unless the others are willing to spend hours hanging around which is a bit unfair to expect.

Although I had my K1 with a couple of heavy lenses for the longer and steeper walks the K50 with 18-55mm kit lens was dusted off and proved an excellent lightweight option which didn't at all feel to be a hindrance.

Stu62, which 3rd party lens was that?

Re. Mirrorless, I am still underwhelmed by the examples I tried; the image in a Fuji viewfinder had completely blacked out shadows although the recorded image was better, the Olympus viewfinder kept switching to black/white for no obvious reason. The larger examples were surprisingly heavy for their size and no smaller than the KP so with the pentaprism that would win for me no question.

Just back, and despite previous comment I bought a couple of 'bargains'. Pentax stand left me a bit unsettled; when you spend a lot of dosh on a manufacturer's products it is nice to feel reassured that you have picked right. I just didn't get that today, maybe the staff were Insufficiently trained, or it was last day exhaustion but other stands didn't seem like that. A couple a simple questions like why are there accessories featured in the K1 brochure which aren't available outside Japan? Or when do we see the new FF prime lenses promised? Not even a mock-up. And when is a 1.4x or other teleconverter coming for full frame? Response was shrug of shoulders, don't know (obviously didn't care). Not unreasonable questions considering the stand is surrounded by competitors who looked like they were trying harder. Stand mainly plugging the KP which looked and felt good, the rest of the range there to try but not really featured much and there was a large stack of leftover K1 brochures but maybe that's because last year they ran out.

Ps it isn't the products I am knocking, just the PR. Are Ricoh as stingy at other photo exhibitions? Better to not be there at all than do something half heartedly.

Due to a last minute revision of a change of plan, I am going tomorrow. There are stands I have in mind to visit but I think most posts here have missed the main point and benefit of the show; it is not just about getting bargains (that's what Black Friday and SRS bank holiday deals are for) but to take advantage of handling kit and talking to staff. Unless you live near one of the few really large photography stores it is one of the few occasions you get to actually see and handle stuff.

Going back to the original review, on the same site is a comparison of unmodified PDF images taken by one camera from each manufacturer (Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Sony, Olympus, Pentax K70) all at factory neutral settings, plus iPhone. In a blind test and purely subjectively the K70 came last, however the reviewer did comment that Pentax bodies really shine with RAW images, implying that Pentax is more likely to be used by those who prefer to exploit that facility.

It would be interesting to output the four frames of the PSR image as separate files and see how many pixels the moon moves between them
I don't think there is that option.

Your assumption is wrong. You need the same speed in PSR as in a single exposure shot. The problem encountered in PSR is that the four pictures aren't taken at the same time, but one after the other. If there is any movement in between the different exposure, then you get some blur, the extent of it depending upon how much movement occurred in between the different exposures. To make things worst, when movement is caused by wind, light objects, or objects with low mass and high "drag" will move more than heavy or low "drag" objects.
I think you misunderstand me, I agree the exposure for PSR is the same as for a single shot but say you pick a speed of 1/500 then the timeframe for a PSR will be 1/125 sec (4x 1/500). In order to get a timeframe of 1/500 sec in PSR (4x 1/2000) you would need to adjust the ISO by four stops. This of course assumes that the interval between PSR exposures is instantaneous which may not be the case.
