Interesting thread.

Personally I avoid most of the forum because of a single member who I find highly irritating and with whom I cannot be bothered arguing.
I've got one of those, too...

The 800px limit is set for the forum, but it doesn't apply in the Gallery where you could happily post up to perhaps 1500px or even 2000px if you felt to inclined. The Gallery was intended for people to post images, the forum is designed for conversations although you can add images into it. A direct upload facility was added into the forum to make it easier.

Since something I posted to the gallery and nowhere else has appeared elsewhere on the web and credited to "others", I don't post there any more - the 800px is about right for people to see an image and comment; for those that claim not to be able to "see it" - if you can't see at that res, how do you cope with a viewfinder or LCD?

In respect of the forum, as you say John, it's primarily Pentax (clue in the name, etc..) but I think the blanket ban on mentioning other brands is a bit draconian. Granted, we don't want this to become a free-for-all, but at the same time it seems unhealthy to pretend other makes don't exist.

For me, being in B&W adds a timeless quality to the shot. If I'd taken it I'd probably have done exactly the same...

A quick selection from the QEII Park in Stratford earlier this week. Taken in failing light but I will be returning, possibly quite often as I don't live too far away...

I was very happy with the one I hired from SRS over a bank holiday in 2011 and placed an order straight afterwards. It has performed brilliantly in some of the harshest conditions and I find it quite versatile.

The weight difference against other lenses is noticeable, but then I found the K5 with a prime and no grip too light. The grip only comes off so that I can remove the in-body battery and the DA*16-50 is my "default" lens, on body and ready to go at short notice

My K-5 batteries each have their own 3-d printed holder. They get checked at security every time I fly from Schiphol, and I have had a couple of compliments on the holders from security bods.
I've never been questioned about batteries when going through airport security either here or abroad. The K5 batteries are in their own compartment in my camera bag which always goes as hand luggage. I usually carry a pack of Lithium AA's as well, in case I get "caught short" and away from an AC supply.

There is a very real possibility that the cause of the mysterious Malaysian airlines crash was Li-Ion batteries being carried as cargo, despite recommendations that they not be carried as cargo on passenger planes.
Shall we just forget that the on-board navigation equipment was manually disabled some time before the plane appears to have ditched? Sorry, but your statement is nothing but ill-informed speculation.

I'm not sure how we are supposed to buy cameras, phones, laptops etc and spare batteries online if they can't be sent by post though. Not everyone has access to a good shop close by.
To take this to its logical conclusion and using your own brand of wild speculation: "carrying anything with a lithium battery in it is dangerous and we mustn't do it any more".

Clearly, there is a market for photo-voltaic headgear that remains untapped... Like most things, it comes down to plain old common sense; sadly a commodity that seems to be in short supply these days.

It is a tough choice Ray, I have both, had the same question many years ago before I bought the Siggy. At the time I bought the Siggy and had a lot of fun with it, but then it just sat on the shelf for a long time. Then I did start to use it more again.
Needless to say, since I bought the FE, at the moment I am having a lot more fun with it.
I suppose the Siggy is more serious the FE more fun. If you can afford to have both, then have both. If not, and it is between the Siggy and the FE, personally I would choose the FE, as the effects are more dramatic, the Siggy you will have to work hard PP to get the straight lines vertical whereas the FE it just does not matter.

I love both, but the FE at the moment is for me.
I get what you mean, but I know I'd have far more use for the Sigma, the FE hasn't been out since July 2012 and its previous outing was some time before that. On the other hand I find I'm often wishing I had a bit more width than the 16-50 DA* offers... It is a pity Pentax don't make a 10-17 non-FE or similar, then I could rent one from SRS and try before committing...

Lovely shot Ray. I know the spot, but only had the Sigma 10-20 at the time. Next time I am back there I will be taking the fisheye
Thanks!

I was actually thinking of chopping the FE in for something like the 10-20 as I'd make more use of it...
