Thanks for the comments all.

Algernon,
I have removed the password so you should be able to go straight in and have a nose around.

Gartmore,
Its a hard rock mine which is producing gold. There are almost no hazardous gases in this type of mine, so its relatively safe to go wandering in, infact I was driven around in a Toyota Hi-Lux whilst I was down there. Coal mines on the other hand are as strict as you say, cant even wear a watch down there if it has a battery in it, cant take anything aluminium (ie drinks cans etc) down even the vehicles are started by pnuematics to remove the spark risks. Anything electrical must be tested and approved prior to going underground and nobody goes underground with having to attend a two day training course !

Regards
PaulM

Hi All,

Thought I would post a few pics from a visit to a Mine out in WA. I went on behalf of my company to get some pictures of our underground wireless gear in action. I must say it was an amazing experience and the shear size of the mine and machinery was pretty mind blowing. I spent two days on site, the first day taking pictures of some above ground radio equipment and the second day underground. the photos below are from the second day which was a little overcast.

A Jumbo operator
These Jumbo's drill long rods with chemical anchors into the ceiling to hold the strata layers together and mesh in place. so it doesn't faqll on your head

They also drill the holes for placing the charges in when they need to blast

A processed image of a Jumbo
I really wanted to make the arms of the jumbo "jump" out of the page with the processing on this one and I think I achieved it?

To me the picture was just a bit too busy, especially on the R/H side with all the twigs poking in That combined with a tight square crop which removed the twigs but constrained the image too much (for me anyway)I also felt that a tight crop took away from a lot of the decay in the wall which I liked and felt added to the mood of the image. One thing that did stand out for me was the brown /red /orange colours in the picture.

So working on the above bits that I liked I downloaded the RAW file and increased the exposure in LR3 beta to bring out a bit more detail in the wall and the beam on the top of the window.

Next I exported that as a TIFF in to photoshop so I could clone out all of the twigs on the R/H side so I had a balanced wall on both sides (I Liked the texture and decay in the wall)

Then darkened (burned) the tree trunks and far window amd a few of the large cracks on the wall.

Then finally increase the saturation a little to bring out the warm colours

The result is below.

I also tried a B&W conversion here but as I mentioned above it didnt work for me.

Hi My name is paul,

I have been clean for nearly three weeks.

Mainly cause I am still deciding between the Tammy 10-24 and the sig 10-20.

Oh and theres also a sigma 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 EX DG on ebay at the mo for a little under $600 on my watch list (which may solve the above problem

AND a vivitar series1 AF 19-35mm

AND a Takumar Bayonet 28mm 2.8

along with several film bodies and some other bits

I obviously need help so please give generously what ever you can, preferably in Pentax mount !

LBA, whats that, never heard of it

I worked out that I have owned or own every DA lens, except the DA*200 and the DA*55 1.4 and that includes all the Ltds and a large portion of Takumars, K,M,A,F and FA lenses. Is that what LBA means :
I just have this vision of clarky's house looking like J.leno's garage, 15 rooms and clarky only uses one cause the rest is full of camera gear

How hard it is to take original pictures of world famous monuments like these!
Thats the problem i was trying to over come, I wanted to capture them both in a way that was a bit different from the norm.

The lighting in the first was quite tricky, it is actully brighter on the left than the right due to the sun rising on the left hand side. I will reduce the vignetting to see how it looks.

I have always struggled to get decent images of both the Harbor bridge and the Opera house. They are both such well photographed places that my images just dont seem to do them justice and generally end up looking like holiday snaps.

Last saturday my eldest woke early so I thought I would go down and have yet another bash to see what I could do and I am happy enough with th results to post here

1) The bridge as the sun comes up

2) The Opera house through the bridge

C+Cs as usual please

Yes, it's a nice set but number 3 is the standout for me as well! Good use of the vignette, nice colours and interesting composition. No real focal point but my eye doesn't seem to mind. Would like to see it bigger!
I agree, number three from the first set and I like all of the second set but number seven stands out the most to me.

Definately recomend Premier Elements.

I bought it in a twin pack with Photoshop elements for 99 pounds

Very easy to use and some good in built transitions that you can tweak yourself to suit. You can add several different audio tracks and fade between them. you can add stills, multiple format video files etc.

I have used it for numerous mini projects and videos.

The only advice I can give is to get a second HDD cause video files can very quickly become HUGE compared to image files and get as much memory as possible cause generating the output file is a slow process when rendering DVD or MP4 (it goes frame by frame).
