Yes the JPEGs and the PEF are supposed to be the same.
Sorry Mike I need to change the PEF file.

I dont usually shoot in RAW, but last Saturday a friend of mine asked me to get some shots of her and her friends walking around in her new range of shoes. The weather was pretty rubbish and between the showers I managed to grab some usable shots, so I would be really interested to see what you all come up with from one of them
JPEG here
Competitiaion will close on the 5th April 2011
Good luck and have fun

I did not expect to win this one. I initially struggled to find a crop that would look balanced (in my eyes) and still keep all the elements that I felt were important parts to the image. Then when I saw how good everyone else's efforts looked I thought I had over complicated it.
Thanks to Mike-P for the judging and congratulations to everyone.
I now need to go find a picture to submit for the next one

Created six new layers, 3 above and 3 below, added increasing ammounts of Gausian Blur to each to simulate a narrow DoF (Tilt n Shift) effect to keep the focus on the bridge.
Then layer masked each to piant out the bridge and keep it sharp
Cropped out the two people on the L/H side and then cloned out the dog.
Flattened then copied to a new layer, increased saturation and dropped opacity to give it the over coloured look that colour slide film has. Then used basic tools to draw a fake slide film border around it.

So firstly congratulations to everyone, it nice to see a new challenge supported by lots of entries, to Mike and Stefan well done and an honorable mention to Don because I NEVER would have thought to do that.
Dr Orloff, It looks more complicated than it is if you want more detail drop me a PM, I will happily give you a more detailed description.
On to the next one.

The worst culprits are the kids, who, at 2 and 5, just dont understand why daddy keeps stopping for ages

It might also be an idea to put some links (or a sticky) to free editing softare that people can use for this challenge / competition.
I would take this one up straight away but the problem is, as mentioned before, everyone is using different programs and with that it is nearly impossible to learn as items that I need to use are in different locations and may well work different.
When I first started out I used GIMP quite a lot to process my pics and to be honest I never came across its limitations, I have only moved over to photoshop because it comes with Adobe CS suite, (which I needded to purchase for work) and yes all of the tools are indifferent places BUT the terminology is very similar. As the plan is to give people an overview of what you did to process a picture I am sure that even a novice using different software will pick up tips and tricks on how to process.

Although might be a good idea to run a quick poll to see how many are interested.

Yes, I had already deleted the PEF as it was the wrong file and I unfortunately I cant find the corresponding one for the JPEG. It was on a card that I had formatted and subsequently re-used and I havent been able to recover the files from the card with recovery software.
I apologise to all, I hope it has detracted from the competition.

(Mods, can you remove the link to the PEF from my original post, Thanks)
