When I enquired about affordable lenses for my new K1ii Forum member davidwozhere recommended I look for an smc F 70-210. Well, I found one and it arrived this week. Before putting it to work on the K1ii I thought I'd first give it a test on my trusty K50 and the shots below were taken today.

They were all taken hand held using TAv at 1/250s with the first 5 on f/5.6 and the last 2 stopped down to f/8.
These are all out of the camera jpg with no PP except the size reduced for posting.

Several of the close up shots were right on the limit of minimum focus distance, so I took the shot of the top of a beech tree to check on long distance shots.

All C&C welcome

I recently bought a 62mm version of these for a Sigma 28-105 UCIII lens.
Whilst it is an elegant design and the concept works well, in practice the quality of manufacture makes it unusable !
The plastic threads on the adaptor ring are undersize and the internal threads on the locking ring are large which means it is impossible to lock the adaptor in place as the ring just jumps over the threads.
I contacted the supplier and they sent me a rubber hood (with a metal screw thread) as replacement.
I may have just been unlucky - but be aware !

Meanwhile, if anyone does have a spare old Sigma 62mm bayonet fitting lens hood please let me know !

Do you have a local second hand camera dealer near you? They might have one in their 'odds and sods junk' box!
A good tip, John, many thanks.
Only problem is that nowadays those shops are even rarer than Sigma lens hoods !

Best regards
Peter

Your squirrels are wimps (or just not experienced enough) !
I tried the garden wire method to hang the seed feeders but the Berkshire squirrels just slid down - ate the food then jumped down onto the grass.
They eventually worked out how to un-twist the wire to make the feeder drop to the ground so they could drag it off to the undergrowth !
We alo get GSW's (Woodpeckers) on the suet balls feeder, but like you I've not managed to get any photos yet - they are very 'skittish' and fly away at the slightest sign of movement inside the house.
Last year we were 'found' by several jackdaws who voraciously attack the suet balls. However, this is a great delight to the blackbirds and pigeons who then gather round under the feeder and pick up all the small pieces which get knocked off.
One can waste hours this way !
Thanks for posting and keep watching

I followed your tip and also ordered one, which arrived today.
This is a great bag and a fabulous bargain.
If they've still got some- get one !

Not quite an "acquisition" but more of of a "reacquisition to come" - after gathering all the data (a real pig of a job with 7 pensions and as many bank accounts - few of which have large amounts in them, but I had to "spread it around" because "high interest" a/cs have very low limits ) I used the Taxcalc s/w to prepare my Tax Return, and it turns out that HMRC owes me over £2k for 2018-2019
Looks like 2k might become K1ii then ?

Thanks , Richard.

You might guess looking at those jagged rocks that they were the cause of many shipwrecks in the past - there is a shipwreck museum in the little street there.

Earlier this Summer Bill Ward posted a fabulous set of shots of Hartland Quay in 'moody' early morning and evening lighting. This is also one of our 'go-to' places as the rock formations are quite amazing. Whilst we were not able to go there very early or very late we did manage to go there recently in what we feel is the best weather for shots here, i.e. BAD weather, with strong winds whipping up the waves. I took along my K70 with the PLM 55-300 and since the wind was a challenge for hand held shots even for the Pentax SR I used TAV and 1/400 at f/8. I apologise for some seeming repetition but the conditions meant that the seascape scenes were constantly changing.

The other thing to remember when using a manual lens is that the meter will switch from Matrix to Centre Weighted. You still have the option of spot meter, but Matrix cannot be used. There may be some scenes where this will make a difference.

I love using old lenses on my Pentax, and the M 50mm 1.7 is a favourite. Get a hood for it if you have not already, and when you take pictures check the histogram to see that you are not clipping.
Many thanks again, Peter, for the additional tips.
Yes I do have a rubber hood that came with my F35-70. It's fortunate that the same 49mm filter thread is on the M50 and also my Chinon 50mm lens. It will also fit a Cosinon W 28mm that I will now try out.
Now that you've told me about the green button metering I'm keen to try out all my old (ebay) lenses that have been sitting unused for so long !
Thanks again
Peter
