The photobucket jpg is a sharper than how it shows on this forum. I'd agree it's a bit burnt out on the legs (too harsh flash), but the bigger part of the challenge here is composition I think. The fly doesn't pop as much as it could because there are other distracting elements competing for the viewer's attention (flowers).

Tail end of this thread (didn't see what Charlotte wrote), but is your tube conducting with the body? Before I got my extension tube to work properly I had to sand it down ("short" it), works fine on -a now. Google for it, it's a common Pentax extension tube issue

Very hard to do this sort of stuff in windy conditions! Are these crops using the 100mm and the ringflash?

Where's the stereotype for the perfectly normal guy who just has photography as a hobby, tries to make vaguely decent piccies and enjoys what they do. I should imagine that represents plenty of people here.

I'd love to see how good their reverse nd grad is, if the colour tinge can be worked on

You can make superb photos with a K7, you really really can. I've only felt held back a few times with one (the forced dfs in startrails and underexposure noise). And at £300 that's a bargain for a rock solid piece of kit. But it slightly depends on what sort of photography you do, if high ISO stuff is a priority maybe go for a used k-x or k-r, if focus speed a priority (ie sports) look for used k-5.

I'd say the 2nd ones are the 2.8 macro?

Personally I didn't get on at all with the Vivitar version of the 'plastic fantastic'. The build quality is appalling, but I could have overlooked that if the results had been o.k.

After fairly extensive testing I couldn't get anywhere near the results with the 100mm Vivitar that I can get with the M 50mm and tubes or macro tele-converter. The image quality definitely suffered when the 1:1 adaptor was added.

It might have been my copy or more likely just me, but I sold it on and don't regret it.
The M50 macro f/4 is a phenomenal lens. When I tested it, I found it to be right on par with an el-nikkor 50 f/4 (which fyi is the mainstay of many ultramacro types like myself). Only difference is slightly less punchy colours but that's easily fixed in PP. I would not hesitate to recommend it.

Hello worldthroughalens,

Before buying, can you put some examples up of the sort of shots/dof that you're trying to achieve? That may provide a better clue what you need to get
