Draconian new Olympic camera rules

According this AP link link Locog are now changing the rules on what cameras you can take into the Olympics.

The previous limit was that he camera and lens had to be less than 30cm. Now it appears that if you take an SLR or any interchangeable lens camera you can only take one lens with a max focal length of 35mm.

Ridiculous.

I am guessing one of the major photo agencies has complained that having paid a fortune to be sole photo supplier lots of freelances have been getting in on the act also...

The Q with a 35mm lens would have a 35mm-equivalent of 192.5mm, which might help get something.

PU will be shut down shortly as I spotted a thread with "Olym**c R*ngs" in the text, I'd imagine the Locog bots will be swooping as I type.

Every time I hear the word "Locog" I imagine it as an insult for not understanding the obvious, or a person with limited cognition. Kind of newspeakish..... Ah well, off to butter 5 bagels and arrange them in .... best not say, had I.

If only such a lens existed - biggest I have so far found is 25mm
No matter how many lenses I have owned - I have always needed just one more

The official site still has 30cm in its pdf tonight.

Large photographic and broadcast
equipment over 30cm in length,
including tripods and monopods.
You cannot use photographic
or broadcast equipment for
commercial purposes unless you
hold media accreditation

You can use a k-mount adapter, and something very sharp like the DA35mm macro.

I'd take my longest lens along, and if security stopped me, I'd tell them that the lens is not intended to photograph an olympic event, but instead, I'm actually a surgeon seeking volunteers to perform a colonoscopy with it, and would they care to volunteer??

It's getting beyond a joke, this whole commercial Olympic monster needs putting down. Perhaps the time is right for somebody to introduce an alternative Global Games designed for the benefit of ordinary people not the multinational corporations.

I would say 50% of people there had a DSRL in their groups, especially amongst the Asian tourists. I think this would be very hard for them to bother trying to police, they would have to turn away thousands of people.

One where only 7% of the contestants have been to public school? Currently 50% have! Sport is so democratic, but a rich daddy helps.

When AP pressed Locog for clarification on its rules earlier this week, a spokesman said it would limit 'professional equipment... since unaccredited photographers are not permitted to distribute their images'.

But he added: 'At the end of the day, if security disallow a spectator into a venue, the final say is with them.'
This is their getout phrase, blame it on G4s and claw back some more of their fee for security.
