It could just be marketing - although I doubt many people will rush out to replace mk1 with mk2 kit lenses...

I'm by no means a lens designer but I'd of thought its the quality of each element not the fact that theres one less, that matters

Ooops - Seem to have caused a bit of confusion The link I put in my post was the one shown when I right-clicked the image in pbase and selected 'properties'.

Thanks to all those who investigated

Some may recognise this as part of the pyramid in front of the Louvre in Paris -

I have the Tamron, and I find that it can be capable of good results considering its status as a 'consumer zoom'. Focussing with mine can be hit and miss even in good light, and I've got used to zooming with my thumb in a certain position on the barrel so that I can't zoom past ~240mm (thumb hits the flash housing )

Its macro switch is useful too, but can't be expected to go as far to replace a dedicated macro lens.

I have had to send mine back for repair (under warranty) once due to a very odd-shaped, stuck aperture. That was a year or so ago, and the problem hasn't reoccured since

Ditto!

Terribly excited about it. A big thank you goes to SRS Microsystems for a very efficient service!

An interesting one - As far as the distortion in a lens goes, if you were to use a prime, and take a picture of an object that the software already knows the shape of, the distortion would be calculate and the repeatability increased significantly...

I have had one of these lenses (M42 Pentax Takumar 55mm F/2) lying around for a while now, and I was wondering if it is worth using (buying an m42 -K) adapter, or letting it loose on ebay? The SP1000 body it was on is gubbed, so I've never seen a photo from it.

Is it a keeper?

I like the koala's expression - well spotted!

I reckon if you could clone out the twig across his eye it would improve it quite a bit.

(Possible silly question coming up)

Does monochrome have to be black and white - or could it be for example red/white??

Awaiting someone's learned response
