NO -- don't take any notice of those above -- USE FILM !! Get a K fit lens series such as my KX from 1975 or a later ME Super-- very easy to use! You can get GIVEN loads of film now free -- I have lots in 2 fridges all FREE !
Pete, I need full manual control - the ME is semi-automatic with aperture control (?) - does the ME super have more manual control? Would love to know who is so generous with film...

Film it is.
The ME-Super has full manual control as well as AV automatic.

Overall my ME-F (an ME-Super with electronic focus confirmation) is my favourite film camera for the experience of using the thing

DO bother with film. The results are still great and it will need to shoot a lot of films to catch up with what the big boys with their K5ii's have spent ;P

Plus you'll be able to brag that you are shooting 'full frame' ;P

Here's one I shot on my z70, using the DA35/2.4 (just a 'family snapshot): http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3698/9693785744_22de067480_c.jpg

To me it just has a nicer look than the equivalent shot on digital crop. Probably mainly the shallower DOF rendering giving the image more of a 3D look.

I would look for one of the flagship PZ series cameras, and if you plan on using AF and therefore don't mind a pentaprism viefinder, any of the budget PZ series will do as well.

Very easy and quick to change aperture / shutter speed settings, via a thumb dial, just like a DSLR.
What he said, although personally I'd add the mid range MZ series to the list, I love my MZ-7

the K mount certainly does return focal length, and at least some approximate value of distance. That's how Auto Picture mode works.

but surely the risk is in building the 18-35 f/1.8 in Pentax mount in the first place, that's not a high volume lens in any mount so they're not going to sell many Pentax (or Sony) ones. They've solved all the significant issues around using the K-AF2 mount, they're shipping a lens which according to reviews has very finicky focusing and for which this accessory is almost a requirement, but they chose not to ship the accessory.

I can't afford the lens, so in the grand scheme of things it makes no difference to me, but it does seem odd.

seems like an odd thing to do, surely it's just a case of building the same unit with a K and Alpha mount on. I'd have thought it was an easy win?

Stick a 50 Canon or Nikon of the same vintage on an EOS or low end Nikon and they work NOT

I love Pentax
And don't forget on the Pentax you get shake reduction. Try asking Cabin in if they'll retrofit an old nifty 50 with IS free of charge

If I could afford either (which I can't) I'd go for the 31mm Ltd.

For me, a lens this fast is something I use rarely, but when I want it there's nothing else that will do. Therefore my fast lens has to be small enough to live in my camera bag without taking up too much space. The sigma is just too large to take on this role for me, and the range is too short for an everyday standard zoom.

The 31mm Ltd on the other hand would live where my FA 50 1.4 currently does, nestled in the bottom of one of my bag pockets, ready for action at a moments notice but otherwise out of the way.

if I was doing the same adjustment in RawTherapee (my RAW editor of choice) I'd use the white balance eye-dropper on the white area of the parachutes, then tweek by hand from there.
