No Sigma USB Dock for Pentax???

Been reading the Sun again, need to stop doing that!

Yet again Nikon & Canon get the treats whilst anyone else with another system gets left out. Just when I thought Sigma was going to make my day as a Pentax user.

seems like an odd thing to do, surely it's just a case of building the same unit with a K and Alpha mount on. I'd have thought it was an easy win?

Big businesses with small gonads, won't take a risk unless they'll sell at least a million of them in the first fortnight

but surely the risk is in building the 18-35 f/1.8 in Pentax mount in the first place, that's not a high volume lens in any mount so they're not going to sell many Pentax (or Sony) ones. They've solved all the significant issues around using the K-AF2 mount, they're shipping a lens which according to reviews has very finicky focusing and for which this accessory is almost a requirement, but they chose not to ship the accessory.

I can't afford the lens, so in the grand scheme of things it makes no difference to me, but it does seem odd.

Having looked at the Sigma uk site there is nothing that I can see to suggest that the Pentax version will not have this. The USB dock is shown with no mention of mount exclusions.

The SRS site mentions the USB dock as well.

Again here's hoping! If Ricoh raise the profile and the numbers sold, then there will be no problem I guess? It's all about numbers, now it could just be Ricoh Imaging (imagine change) U.S.A. Thats the problem here, the original post

Shows the mail that was sent to Sigma U.S.A. and the response which seems pretty unequivocal really, they've done this before with Lenses like the 120-300 F2.8 and allegedly now the 8-16 (Read it somewhere) has been discontinued in Pentax mount over there, it could all just be conjecture on their part but the reply from Sigma on the USB dock seeems clear enough...

Maybe the focussing on the new Pentax dslr are that accurate the sigma kens doesn't need calibration....

I've never found it difficult.

Some people are masochists Algi and actually like that sort of thing, perhaps people like you and me should send our lenses to them for adjustment?

Another point about the Sigma USB Dock is that you have to
remove the lens from the camera and move it to the Dock
after each adjustment then back again. You might also have
to move your SD Card over to the PC... I use an Eye-Fi Card
so I don't need to do that.

Even when you set some Sigmas, which you can only do wide
open.... they focus shift badly on stopping down. The 120-300mm
does that.

It's not well known..... mostly because it isn't needed, but
some Vivitar lenses have a separate adjustment to set the lens
to infinity inside the lens.... Let's all moan about all
lenses should have that

Sigma Japan have not yet announced whether they will be producing the USB docking station for Pentax as of yet unfortunately.



Should they make such announcement we shall update our website accordingly.

It's possible that there isn't enough information transfered
on the Pentax K mount. The AF uses the two Pz contacts and
other stuff uses the A Series contacts. Sigma probably need
a minimum of +/- power supply to their chip plus distance
and focal length, which might not be available.

The new K(N)iiZ mount with 12 contacts should sort it out

the K mount certainly does return focal length, and at least some approximate value of distance. That's how Auto Picture mode works.
