Usually it's the picture that comes closest to the judge's choice of topic, and is also a fine picture that wins. But if the competition were to be judged purely on photographic merit what if Mattox had decided the most competent entry was, say, of the kitten? That was hardly human suffering. Its a fine line and I wonder where it should be drawn?

I agree David - it should be the best photo on theme that should ideally win (though of course opinions will generally differ on which meets these criteria best). In this case a picture of a cat would have been inappropriate, but not necessarily one of a sulky child! Though of course the decision is up to the judge.

Thanks for the constructive interjection David.
That's quite ok - but life is too short - get out there with a camera and do it - rather than spend your life talking about it and what might have been. It's done - move on

Living Architecture - A growing construction - I wonder who underwrites the insurance for that little pile of kindling?

amazing,

good luck with the competition judging then!
Just for the record......Promhandicam was doing and winning/judging competitions here on PUF before a lot of the the posters in this thread were even a member or active on PUF.
So its safe to assume he knows the drill.
He doesn't look old enough!

Hi Aiki,

interesting thought - I met my new granddaughter for the first time in December 2009 ( she was 18 months old ) and after taking about 100 shots in the first day or so my daughter suggested that the kid would grow up thinking her grandad had a Pentax stuck to the front of his face ...!!
The up side is that she now plays to the camera and is VERY photogenic.

Tony
My two Granddaughters 2 Years and 5 months respectively, will probably think something similar about me! However, the up side is that they both now ignore the camera and I get some great candid shots as well as some good portrait style photos (Well mum and dad like them)

Outstanding image, Kris.

Might have known you owned one of my most coveted lenses. (I've lost even more sympathy with you now!)

Had a great afternoon on the Somerset Levels yesterday...sun even shone!

Best wishes,

A.
Might I ask whereabouts on the levels?

Even if this lens is cheaper than the DA* 300 it is a very capable lens. All of my PPG shots were taken with one!
Indeed, I use one with a Pentax 1.7x teleconverter and its a great little lens. The only reason I bid was that its in better condition than mine and has the tripod collar and case (mine doesn't).
Snap!
