I could see a definite shake in the view finder following the 2 second delay when the mirror came back down. Not sure if that would have an effect or not
I was focusing directly on the moon using auto and manual focus.
I took about 10 shots at various settings and couldn't get it any better
than what i am showing.
If so, try shrinking it to about 4/5 of that size (using 'bicubic sharper'), and applying just a tiny bit of USM - 75/1/1 for instance.
I think you'll be pleased - I don't think it gets much better than that without a telescope.
I will give your recommendations a try. Thanks for that.

Duplicate the layer
Set the blending mode property of the duplicate layer to Overlay
Add another colour correction layer and manipulate to suit.

The 28-80 probably has no SMC coating and is of limited use on a DSLR.
The SMCP-DA 18-55 kit lens is a reasonable performer, surpassed only by the 16-45mm in that range, or the DA* 16-50mm.
Personally, I would ditch your 28-80, buy a 12-24 or Sigma 10-20 and maybe a SMCP-FA 80-320 or similar. You could keep the 28-80 to fill the gap between 55 and 80mm. If you have the money, the DA* 50-135mm is a superb optic.

Eneloop batteries have two main attributes of interest to me.
1: They are more similar in size to Alkaline batteries. I find NiMh batteries to be very slightly longer which puts more pressure on door catches. This is of particular importance if you own a AF360FGZ flash with it's apalling door catch.
2: When charged, they stay charged for up to a year if not used. NiMh batteries stay charged for only a few weeks at most due to the self discharge characteristics.
The only downside is that they don't have the capacity of modern NiMh batteries and are at present limited to 2000maH. I'm sure that'll change. I haven't found it a problem.
