Well the sun has been shining here, for . . . weeks actually. 21 degrees C indoors, it's getting warm . . . I can't remember the last time we had rain, and snow is (almost) unheard of this far south.

Summer's not coming for us . . . it's here.

Summer does have it's downside though, 45 degrees inside in the summer is unbareable.

Now that is a good idea . . .

Totally agree Peter, except that in the U.K. it's six years, the two years is the minimum. The only real difference between this document and the Trading Standards one is that the T.S. one states to whom the burden of proof applies. You could argue that the E.U. one implies the seller is responsible, but without explicit instruction to that effect, it's quite safe to assume that any U.K. court would use the specifics contained in the SoGA.

Agreed. I have thought for some time that the EU directive was to force manufacturers to offer the 2 year gurantee. That is clearly not the case.

That said, all of the domestic appliances, cars, and other consumer goods I have bought in Spain have 2 years manufacturers guarantee.

guys!

its a repair for accidental damge plan not a warranty as such!
thats the bit im paying for.
And as such, it represents pretty good value for money.

Does the cover start from the day you bought the insurance cover, or after the first 12 months warranty?

Quote (extracted from here)

GUARANTEES ON CONSUMER GOODS

When you purchase something, the seller must deliver goods which are in conformity with the contract of sale. In case of lack of conformity, your first option is to ask for the good to be repaired or replaced free of charge. If repair and replacement are impossible or disproportionate, or the seller does not perform his obligation within a reasonable time and avoiding significant inconvenience, you may ask for a suitable reduction in price or for the rescission of the contract.

The seller is held responsible for the lack of conformity when this becomes apparent within two years as from delivery of the goods.

Professionals offering additional guarantees (e.g. manufacturers) are bound under the conditions laid down in the guarantee statement and the associated advertising. They must make clear that additional guarantees do not affect other legal rights conferred upon consumers by national legislation.

End Quote.

Your camera has 2 years warranty against manufacturing faults or defects. That's European law.

Why do manufacturers still try to pull the wool over the eyes of the british public by stating 12 months warranty when they know darned well they have to give 24 months? Just because they can?
does that law cover accidental damage if dropped it and broke it?
No it doesn't. Manafacturers warranty only covers defects in manufacturing or early life failure of a component or assembly.

Accidental damage cover is insurance, not warranty.

I'd substitute the 10-17mm (but then, I'd never buy a fisheye lens) for the 12-24mm. The rest is about right for most eventualities.

Good choices, but I wouldn't take 2 x 50-200mm lenses unless you are likely to both need them at the same time. I'd opt for the 75-300mm in Sue's kit.

Have a great holiday.
