. . . we are well used to seeing sparrows, starlings, crows, jackdaws, and a variety of seabirds here in southern spain. We even get to see flamingoes, rollers, bee eaters, and the occasional hoopoe. Today, my wife and I were sitting on our terrace having lunch, and yes, I'd had a glass or three of wine, but out of nowhere came this extraordinarily large bird which settled in our lemon tree. Well, large compared to most of the others I mentioned.
At first glance it looked a bit like a bird of prey . . . but when it turned towards me I could see it had no hooked beak (or bill if you prefer). I immediatley commented to wifey that it looked a bit like a cuckoo, but it can't be, can it?
It stayed for about 10 seconds and flew off and of course the camera was snuggled up inside it's bag in the house.
Having checked and re-checked my bird guide, I discovered it was a great spotted cuckoo.
I'll try and have the camera ready for if/when it comes back.

I have this lens (or one very like it) - the switch only operates at the full 300mm, and allows the focussing ring to go below 1.5m, and down to 0.95m. (This shows as a yellow line on the focussing ring.)

Neither camera will 'switch' batteries when powered on. When one becomes depleted, you get the low/exhausted symbol. Then when you switch off and on, the second battery kicks in.
Are you sure both of your batteries fully charged?
I have my K10D set to use the grip battery first, then I know which one has depleted. It also saves having to take the grip off to get at a dead battery.

The hood was advertised in the listing but did not arrive with the lens. I have contacted the seller and he is willing to reimburse me the cost of the hood. He mentioned £5 - £10 but I have mentioned it is more like £20.
If it all works out i will get a brand new hood on a second hand lens. How i wish it was the other way round but the lens is only two months old.
Thanks for all you comments and links.
Beware, they are not cheap.

I have no association with, or experience of, the seller.

Comment by Mannesty posted on Tamron Macro 90mm not working with Macro Tubes! Eh...? at 20/03/2008 - 20:50
They are the Jessops ones, which I believe were made by Kenko?
They look identical to Clarky's, just with the full 7 pins.
Have now done what was recommended, and so far am managing to get them to work!! But it is getting weird again, 2 working, one not. Will persevere!
Also I get the feeling that these with 7 pins are unusual?
Have you tried them on your old camera?
