Argos

I got the new Argos catalogue today and of course I had to have a look at what they were offering Pentax-wise.

First, of course, they are selling K10D and K100D kits, it sure is nice to see them keep up with the times!

Then I had a look at what Samsung items they had and saw these:

Samsung D Xenon 50-200mm for 170 quid, that's the RRP, but you can get a better price else where. But look at this:

Samsung D Xenon 18-55mm for 400 quid! I wonder how many of those they will sell?

Perhaps you're not familiar with 'Argos' - a very upmarket store, and as you know exclusivity comes at a price. Personal shoppers, a refined atmosphere, calm and restful, it's a real pleasure to be served at Argos and well worth the premium price.

Reminds me of a reference somebody once gave:

.. where it's usually full of people in sportswear who you know are never going to the gym. The process, however, is simple. You go to the list, look up your choice, write down your choice on a form (with a stubby little pen), then take it to the counter and pay. You then watch a TV screen until your number comes up, at which time you go to another counter to collect.

Sound familiar? Couldn't be more like the bookies if they tried!

The picture shows the (Samsung equivalent of FA) 100mm macro. That would match the price a little better...

A few years ago Argos used to be extremely competitive, when owned by GUS.

Since it was taken over by Home Retail Group I've not considered buying anything electrical from them - prices generally speaking are over inflated, probably the reason their latest sales figures were non too good either.

BTW - I don't work for any of the companies mentioned !!

I don't use Argos as much as I used to (many years ago), but that's because there are so many other sources for cheap goods these days (which I find thanks to the intenet), rather than because Argos's prices have risen.

I did however buy my K10D from them. The price was competitive and I picked it up from my local branch to save a delivery charge and get it quickly.
